Ruger 1911 Commander

I was in a local gunshop today and the owner told me that he was informed by his supplier that Ruger has made a Commander sized 1911, and that two of the pistols would be delivered to the shop on January 2nd. I will be getting both.

I have read different threads where it has been speculated that Ruger would produce a 1911 Commander, but there has never been any information released by Ruger that such a configuration was going to be produced.

According to the supplier, they were in possession of 10 such pistols.

I have two SR1911's and have been extremely pleased with the guns. I also own three Kimbers, three Colts, two Springfield TRPs, two Smith and Wessons and a Wilson Combat 1911. I have been very happy with the SR1911's and can't wait two get my hands on Ruger's Commander version of the 1911.

Has anyone else heard of this unannounced production?

Well if that is the case you will be getting a rare beast for sure. I am a member on the Ruger forum also and they dont know about it. I also talked with a Ruger Rep in early Dec about this and he said it would be at least 2 years out hell Ruger has stopped taking orders right now for the fullsized 1911 as they can not keep up with demand. Post pictures when you get it.

Vapor ware until it hits the shelves. I wouldn't put it past Ruger but with the Shot Show coming within days, I would be surprised if they showed up before then.

When your dealer called them Commander did he mean with the 4 1/4" barrel? Some people also use the term Commander with the 4" or even shorter barrels. This this the first I have heard of a Ruger Commander too.

I'm in the market for a carry 1911. Since I already have a SR I would love a commander size SR1911. If you lay eyes on it take a pic at least so we can see that it is real. It has been talked about alot but never really as a possibility in the near future.

I'll see it tomorrow afternoon (Alaska time) and will post the results. Hopefully it is what the supplier represented. I will most certainly post a picture along with all of the specs.

If Ruger had a 100,000 SR Commanders ready to ship they'd be sold out before the end of the week. Looking forward to seeing pics but not gonna hold my breath....

There are a lot of us that would pay full blown retail on this item. I think it is coming on the same shipment as the ground unicorn horn.

I am pretty active on a Ruger forum and the only time this has been mentioned is when somebody says "Boy I wish Ruger would make a Commander size 1911".

Me too. Why would they be on the market in AK & no press release from Ruger? Stranger things have happened though...........

I am still a big time skeptic here, but I can't tell you how much I hope I am wrong. I hope I am dead wrong and kodiak is on the level.

I dont think its a matter of marketing guys. New products are often listed on distributor websites weeks before they are officially announced. For example, the new for 2013 Winchester rimfire cartridge, the .17 Winchester Super Mag was listed on 3 or 4 distributor websites two weeks ago and Winchester just announced the product officially today. Also, Ruger has stated that they do not intend to introduce new models until they are ready to ship or almost ready to ship. This has held true with several of their recent introductions. I tend to believe that this particular "rumor" is probably true.

Please post the pics. I am on the verge of purchasing several new pieces for the collection, but if this is going on the market! I will need cash in hand.

If they are getting them, I'd bet Ruger announces them at SHOT. If. Since they are having a difficult time keeping up with the 5" model, why would they start a new model and split the line?

Ruger is as good as it gets at keeping a secret, but I thought the same thing you did reb.

Here are some photos comparing it to a full-size SR1911. Its late, I'm using a cheap camera, so forgive the quality.

It really exists. BTW, it is a 4 and 1/4" barrel.
