Sig Sauer P229 40 cal Trade Value

Local trade situation: I am trying to get rid of my Remington 700 SPS Stainless in 30-06.

Guy is offering his used Sig p229 40 as straight across trade.

The p229 a 2002. About 500 rounds through it, with two mags and original box.

What do you guys think? I am not partial to the 40 cal pistols in general (got rid of my glock 27 for my first 1911). I would probably just turn around and try to sell/trade this for another pistol/cash. Thoughts on value and if this is fair trade would be very helpful.

I would ballpark the Sig at around $500, no more than $600 if it is VERY nice... they are somewhat plentiful (in .40) in the used marketplace, and usually reasonably priced... plus the Sig factory 'remans' are around $600-ish, if I remember correctly.
.40 is actually a very good caliber, especially in the P229 sized pistol. Sig makes great DA/SA guns. I would like to eventually pick up a used/LE trade-in P229 in .40 ($325-$400).

It's only lying if someone believes it.

Depending on variation of his pistol and condition, $450 if blued/nitron with wear. Prices could get higher for stainless, night sights, etc...

Personally, I wouldn't trade if I wasn't interested in it as a keeper.

I believe you. I bought it that way because I did my research on pistol calibers for a long time and liked the .40 cal. I just got sick of paying for it.

Locally (on armslist) they seem to go for 6-800, and on gunbroker they go for closer to what you are suggesting. Thanks for the tips.

Any further thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
