New KA Bar knives

Are the new KA Bar knives as good as the old military ones?

I've always liked WWII stuff and was looking to get an Army one since my grandpa was a p38 pilot in the Army.

kabar, camillus, etc all made them....Ontario still has the contract....all were/are 1095 heat treated and constructed to same government spec, some are just prettier and maybe straighter grinds or better edge out of box....current kabars are the prettiest of all, with paint instead of parkerize and high gloss polish to leather, the paint taking them out of the running for them being mil-spec, my pre-crappy sheath version worked great as a light/med duty service knife....great knives, as are ALL of them...unfortunately, the sheaths on the new kabar brand which i have seen were a cheap shoddy piece of work which looked about like reconstituted leather to me, the leather equiv of fiberboard....and they were NOT knock-offs as far as i could tell...correct blade stamps, correct boxes.....i quit looking at them after that....perhaps it was only temporary....would recommend to look at a new one before you buy....

Many people who are buying the new Ka-Bar knives are striping the paint off and finding they like the plain steel look better. do a search for "modified Ka-Bar" on-line and you will see, if you go with the Ka-Bar.
