Questions: Texas CHL sequence of events
I finally feel ready to do CHL training and application. But I have a dumb question or two.
I see that I can apply for the CHL online, and there is an L1 facility close by for the fingerprints. I've found a good place to take the required tests. Is the proper order: 1. CHL tests 2. Application to DPS 3. Fingerprints OR Can I do the application and fingerprints, to expedite things before doing the training? I seem to recall that L1 won't give you an appointment without having the CHL application submitted. Is this correct? Thanks

Do your class first, then do your online application and at the end of that they will give you the option to make an appointment for your finger printing. Once that's done they also give you some paperwork to fill out. Once you do you finger prints and get your paperwork together then you mail that in to the DPS office and from there it becomes a waiting game.

Fill out the application online first. It makes things go a bit quicker. You can also schedule your fingerprinting online, but make the appointment for after your CHL class. My wife and I just recently went though this process. We submitted the application online about a week before the class and made our fingerprinting appointment for the morning after the CHL class. I called the TXDPS and asked about filling out the application first of after the class and was told to fill it out and submit if prior to attending the class.
