Colt finish question

Was at a LGS yesterday and in the LEO cabinet they had a Cold 1911 rail gun I looked at but the finish was much different than any Colt I've held. On some SA, the bead blasting is very dark and rough, but this Colt has a MUCH rougher finish but it was a lighter grey. Anyone know if that is an actual coating (I would initially guess a different type of bead blasting material than is commonly used) or just a very coarse blast? Looked like a special finish to hold up to the wear and tear that LE would put it through. Either way, it was pretty cool and "industrial" looking.
