NCIS " auto " knife???

Was watching NCIS last night & Gibbs was shown using
his " auto " ???? knife in one scene, the knife with the
tiger striped blade.
I'm sure it looked like it was button deployed & I've seen
this knife used on several other episodes.
Did a google search & found out it's ZT Zero Tolerance & I
think they show it as a model 301 & it's supposed to be a
flipper/spring assist model; looks to be a nice knife, but a
little on the pricey side; another website shows a traditional
style button auto that also looks to be a good heavy duty
knife at a very good price.
Anyway, I guess my question is that a real auto that
they're using on the show ?

If I remember correctly it is actually a Zero Tolerance 302. The 301 and 302 are essentially the same as the 300 except for different coatings on the blade and grip color. The are actually assisted opening knives. With a quality assisted opening knife a quick push of the thumb stud and it will open as quick as an auto.

I find it funny that a member named La Grenouille replies to an NCIS thread.

+1

The Knife should be a Kershaw Zero Tolerance 0302

My Kershaw assisted opens very fast with just a tiny nudge on the thumb stud. Almost less movement than the push of a button. Would be hard to tell the difference between that and a full auto with most camera angles.

I did notice the knife in the episode also, but did not look closed enough to see the brand.

Ya for some reason I thought it'd be funny to join a gun forum with the name of an infamous arms dealer from my favorite TV show. At the time, I had no idea the guy later gets shot!

Zero Tolerance knives are partly designed by Strider.

not full auto, faster than full auto. I have multiple autos and none of them match the speed of the ZT301. It's a great knife to have. If the blade ever gets dull, I can always beat someone to death with it. Death is good.

Wildfire45,
David McCullum just signed a two year contract with NCIS, he'll be back.
Tony, Abby, and Timmy may be dead (they haven't sign a new contract).

For an anti-gun person, Gibbs does have good stuff (Hemi car, watch, rifle, knife,....)
Too bad he doesn't use Mike Frank's 45.
He had good taste in women until Jamie Lee came along.

Jamie Lee has lost her looks. It's like Gibbs is dating his much older sister.
Just doesn't work.

Same reason I love my Striders. The heat treat is awesome, the steel is great and they're built like tanks.

On a side note, I'm interested in where you're working. PM me if you get a chance.

jon- that explains it, i wasn't aware of that connection, good to know

harryt- good to hear, the more i thought about it, i couldn't figure out how the show would continue without him, and i agree i would love to see gibbs carry/use franks's 1911. mike franks was always my favorite character in the series anyway.

Just curious , what brand 1911 did the Frank's character use ?

I've seen the ZT knives on the show as well. They look great, but I work plainclothes and I'm not sure I've got enough room left in my pocket for a knife that big. Currently carrying an Emerson Mini Commander, and really like that knife.

About a month ago I got to go to training with the real NCIS investigators. They have a pretty good cold case homicide unit that does a school for LE involved in cold case investigations, Good training, and got some cool little trinkets as well.

And yes, I was carrying a 1911 during the training...
