Secret LE Ammo...

Hey All,

Apparently I stumbled on the "secret LE" ammo trail.

I am looking for some Federal HST in 9mm and when I struck out I E-mailed Federal. It started with a generic "I am looking for part number....." Here is the response-

Jim this is a L.E. round--where did you buy it before???

So here we go right. My reply was-

Locally and on line. They have boxes of .45 in at least 2 or 3 places right in town.

Next I get one from the regional big shot with 4 CC's to other staffers no less-

I have plenty of the P9HST1, P9HST2, and P9HST3 as well as all three 40's, both 45's and the 357 SIG in stock and can ship it straight to your Agency. It is restricted to LE only but I can sell it to an individual officer as long as I ship it to his Department. I can also drop ship to your Department BUT the factory only drop ships in full case lots. That is why commercial gun shops do not have it. Let me know what you want to do. I am the NH State Contractor for Federal and CCI/Speer and supply the Dover PD. I think Dan Komenda is their weapons officer if memory serves.

Restricted to LE only? Since when?

There are at least two places right around town that have it in .45 caliber. I think I saw some in +P too but I can't remember now. I have a box myself, it's my carry ammo. I wanted it to be my wife's carry ammo as well but I need some in 9mm Luger for her.

Hate to have to resort to Hornady!

Now is this just me or does anyone else find this irritating? Come on man LE only? Like it's MUCH more lethal than Speer or Hornady or even their own Hydra Shok or Vital Shok?

Stupid stuff like this drives me nuts. It's good ammo. You have it. I want it. Sell it you fools.

He just wrote back and inferred that-

I had an attitude.
I was obviously not an LEO since I failed to provide any real personal information (I provided my name and address and phone number).
I should buy Hornaday ammo as it was great.
A 9mm was a bad choice for a woman's carry weapon.

I replied with something along the lines of that I was sorry he felt that way as I had not intended to be rude and I thought that was a poor decision by Federal as it was great ammo.
