Need input on the new VZ Grip series 1911/AKA 2011 Tactical

I'm on the fence for another 1911 and the RIA 2011 Tactical is currently at the top of my short list.

Can anybody get me an honest opinion on the stock, Truglo/LPA combo sights? I would hate to get this pistol and end up replacing the sights soon after I have acquired it. This is not for night ops, just strictly for target, but will also be my new home defense weapon with light and laser installed.

Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

Amazing! 109 looks and no comments. Either there's not a lot of them around or just not worth talking about.

Would the sights on the STI Spartan be better?

I will comment...

I LOVE mine! I just got it approved for duty. Out of the box feed golf dot 230jhp. Shot the best I've ever shot. Found a couple of really nice conceal holsters, w/o light. The action of there slide is smooth. Trigger is exactly what I want for what I do.

How do you like the sights?

I have one, the sights are good and it was dead accurate out of the box. The optic I don't find to be stellar however unless you are shooting at something particularly well lit. The rear sight has the pros and cons of an adjustable sight, it's easy to adjust if you need to, but could theoretically come unadjusted. I haven't had any issues with the rear sight snagging, but the front sight might as well be called a "DNA catcher". The rear sights on the spartan look more likely to snag and the front sight looks pretty similar to the RIA. I've never handler one of those but I'd probably go with the RIA.

I love mine. I would buy it if I were you. I just put my first 100 rounds in it last night with zero problems. It was dead accurate right out of the case. For $599.99 it is a lot of gun for so cheap of a price. RIA hit the nail on the head when they upgraded from there old version of the 2011 tactical. Which was a great gun too I might add because I own one also. I like the sights are enough not to change them. I like the fiber sights, but when at the indoor range the front sight doesn't take in a lot of light so it wasn't as bright as I originally thought it would be. Other than the darker indoor range I was at it is always pretty bright though. The magwell, front machined slide, and VZ grips are all great improvements from the old version of the 2011 tactical.

There only thing I want to change is the color of the front sight to green. As everyone has said it is dead accurate out of the box.

I have not handled one but I can honestly say that it is the best looking 1911 in my opinion.

It is my first 1911 and I love to shoot it. It looks awesome, shoots better and feels great in the hand.

Ok got it last week. Have not live fired yet but snap cap - love it. Nice trigger - not too heavy not to light. Love the sights - at least for now and the price was right.

My dealer still hasn't found one and 6-8 week wait on the STI. So I ended up getting a S&W M&P9 instead. I'll give it another try for those 1911's after the elections.
