S&W 57 Original?
Should not a S&W model 57-3 have the white outline on the back sight?
I understand that sometimes parts that were on hand would be used if any left over. Serial #BFA9XXX. I have found one in pawn shop in excellent condition, but was wondering if the sight had been changed. Didn't look boogered up, but with what they're asking, I didn't want one that Bubba had got hold up. Thoughts? |

Just because one had a white outline site at one time, doesn't mean it does now.
I have one that had a white outline, but it wore away with general cleaning. Now it's just plain black.

I wouldn't worry about it if everything else is in order. A gunsmith can change it to a white outline for very little cost.

S&W model 57s are awesome guns.
I have two of them. I like the caliber a lot. If the gun is clean and tight, I would not worry about the sight. As long as it is as you say not boogered up looking. I would just concern myself with the price.
My two cents. |

Thanks for the response. I knew the white could be "cleaned away", but wanted the original sights if that was not the case. I've known some guns to be robbed to have their parts put on another gun. This one is in a pawn shop, so sometimes you have to be careful.
Thanks |

If the front is black without the orange insert then the rear will be black but if the front site has the orange insert then there is a good chance that it should have the white lined rear. If you dont mind to say how much are they asking for it?

It had the red insert in front sight, but after closer inspection, the lockup wasn't what I desired. Asking $725, but was overpriced. Model 57's in my part of the country are going from $7-900, depending on condition.
Didn't have the box, which I was told it did, but a mistake was made at the pawn shop. |

Yeah that is to much for a dash 3. Here is mine that is a 57 no dash that i paid 775$ for and it is in great shape!!!! Dont know what the deal is with the lighting but the light blue on the cylinder is from the lighting.

Great looker, goetztrp. I'm wanting a six inch, and will continue to keep my eyes open. They're out there, so I'll be patient.

Thanks!!! You will find one if you keep looking. I watched a couple on gunbroker for a while but they go for crazy prices.
