RIA Shortage?
Is RIA having shortages right now? I always look at Center Fire and all of the RIA they are showing on Backorder. My local GS who always has standard RIA are out of them also.

Between two LGS I ha e found four RIAs. Three standard guns and one compact. That guy wants $479 for the compact. I think I'll just hold out for a tactical compact which is what I really want.

A lot of people say that Rock Island is a well kept secret, but I believe the cat is out of the bag.
I had never heard of Rock Island until one day at the range when a guy asked to see one of my guns, and when I offered to let him try it out, he handed me his Rock Island G.I. and told me I might be surprised by it. I wasn't really surprised with the performance, but when I looked up the price I was surprised that such a reasonably priced gun peformed so well. Needless to say, I've seen a lot more Rock Islands at the range lately. I think ATI's are growing in popularity as well. Good guns for a good price..what's not to like? |

I was at two gun stores today. One had three rocks, a fs tac-$680, a cs tac-$650, and a fs gi-$575. They had a colt commander for $1075, and I couldn't tell what the other brand was for $800.
Other gun store had two gi rocks for $550, a remR1 for $650, and a sa milspec for $725. These are two of the cheapest and best shops in town. My one guy said the rocks are becoming hard to get. I got my gi for just at $500 at a gunshow after tax and background bs about four weeks ago. So yeah something is up id say. |

I've had a hicap on order since the SHOT show.
Did get one from Bud's about 3 weeks ago tho. Havent decided whether or not to cancel the first one. Seems like with this 1911 thing more is better. But, I'm not addicted. I'm not in denial either. Nope, I ain't.![]() Bob Last edited by TacoBobbo; 04-15-2012 at 01:35 AM. Reason: To change content |

I've got a local shop looking for a full size tactical. Not much luck. I've seen several 2011 tacticals around, but I'm not too fond of the rail.

RIA 9mm
Was at my local guy Saturday looking for a 9mm RIA. Said at one time the 1911 9mm's were collecting dust now he has nothing. Looked on the computer for me and said he'd call if something came up.
Nothing else in the Chicago Western suburbs that I can find. Any help out there? |

I have been looking at the Rocks lately also. I forget where I was, but probably a gun shop. The guy was telling one of the customers that he had just recently talked to one of the reps at Ruger. He said that all gun sales are through the roof right now. I can't remember the numbers, but Ruger is currently so far behind that they are not even accepting any new orders from the distributors until they get caught up. My guess would be that, given how much of a bargain the Rocks are for the quality, they are probably gonna be scarce in this economy where everyone is looking for something they can afford without skipping out on the rent. I have been looking to purchase one myself. I was thinking 9mm compact tactical. I will probably get the full sized 9mm tactical. Maybe even tomorrow. As for pricing around here (Oklahoma) I have seen base models advertised at $379. A local shop near me has the 9mm GI for $407.

I paid 550 for a 9mm FS Tac with 3 mags about 2 weeks ago. The 45 seems to be around a little but the 9mm are gone. Wish I would have found them a few years ago.

If the rocks had a base price of $750, would our wilson/baer/kimber pals still call them a cheap pos?

When I bought my RIA FS Tactical all the big places were out of stock after doing a fair amount of searching I found one in a Small gun shop in California which I had him ship to my gunshop. His price was 480 bucks but shipping was included. Yea places that have them for 420 still charge you about 40 bucks for shipping and handling so I was not gonna get up tight about 20 dollars. Of course I had to pay 45 bucks for the transfer fee and back ground check at my gun shop but that is standard charges if you order a gun from some one else.

Just bought a 1911FS .45 for $439 out the door in northern WI a week ago, was told the same thing that Waynokarider was regarding Rugers, that they're taking no orders. Was also told by the LGS that RIA was getting hard to get and I may have gotten the last one he'll be selling for awhile because he can't get them.

What you guys are experiencing may be simple demand and supply at it's best. Either they're not high in demand so dealers don't bother stocking much of it, or it's so popular that they always find it hard to keep them in the store. If you believe the latter, then you're definitely drinking the kool-aid. Don't take what I'm saying out of context, I love mine, and for the price and how it performs it's levels above my first $1K 1911 POS I purchased.
