Sandy/ Gritty extractor on Citadel Officer?
I detail stripped my 1911 today and decided to familiarize myself with the slide assembly, so I detail stripped that as well. I pried the extractor out from the back, and was surprised to find that there was a very gritty, sandy substance on the extractor and in the extractor bore. IMO, gritty is NOT good on a pistol. I cleaned the bore with Rem Oil and a Q tip, and wiped down the extractor before reinserting and gently seating it. I cycled a couple mags afterward with no issues. I was just curious if anybody else had seen this?
I bought the gun new, BTW, and had only shot it a couple times. Was this some sort of factory glue? |

it's pretty hot and humid in the PI from what i understand . i reckon all the metal parts in the storage bins are well gUnk'd to prevent rust Not sure how well they're cleaned before assy while grit is a bad thing on the rails, it's not as big a deal in the ext'r tunnel, cause the ext'r actually moves VERY little but you did the right thing, never the less ..L.T.A. |

I pulled my extractor out after the first trip to the range and found the same thing.

Yes i did the same thing with my RIA Tactical 5"... It was oiled up like it was going out of style when i first got her... Didnt really experience any grit but definitely had some oil leaking out pretty good when i unbagged her

Each new pistol should be completely taken down and cleaned, including the slide and the Mag. Extractor and firing pin channels are great places for oils and burnt power residue to hide, and cause problems down the road.........

I didn't have any grit in mine but it sure was a booger to get out the first time.
