Might take a look at STI's TargetMaster. I had one in 9mm and it was smooth as butter!

I'd go for the Les Baer Custom.

Springfield Armory has one in their Loaded line but I don't care for the bull barrel of their offering.

I had one built from a LBC slide and frame by the Springfield Armory Custom Shop and it turned out quite nice but I also spent enough to get the LBC Ultimate Master which has a few more features than the one I had built.

Stay away from any AMT Hardballer Longslide models.

In my experience (and the majority of reports from other owners) is that they are total pieces of shyte.

I've posted pics of my custom Longslide many times before and I always appreciate the good comments I get about it.

Even shooters who don't dig 6"ers seem to like this one.

Here she is one more time:

I'm partial to my Les Baer.

That's a good looking custom Springfield, though.

Every once in a while you will see an old time custom longslide for sale.
Clark Custom is the most common and are wonderfully smooth guns.

My choice after an extensive search was a Nighthawk Henie Longslide. Works flawlessly. With my eyes, I opted for fixed sights and use the pistol for steel target competitions. I'll have to get knowledgeable about photos one of these days.

I also have a Night Hawk Customs Heinie longslide, but in 10 mm along with a Wilson Combat longslide in .45 ACP. I just love the feel of a londslide. My LGS had a Springfield .45 ACP for sale, but the frame seemed small/shorter than full size. It didn't really fit my hand well, so I didn't get it

"Best" is very subjective. I have a Para Super Hawg (8 round) longslide that is wicked accurate and reliable. While it isn't of the quality that I want in a carry gun, it has served me well at the range.

I adopted this little orphan in 1987 - despite the bad rep AMT had - I think they just did their best work on their longslides - it's been nearly as reliable as my Colts -

Plus - I couldn't pass up that $389.00 price - replacing those oversize slide stop and thumb safety levers, and the grips (ok - STOCKS) - helped looks -

Thanks for the nice comments on my SACS Longslide, I see some other really cool pistols posted on this thread too, that I wouldn't mind having in my safe.

Lookin' like the OP is one of those hit'n'run types that doesn't come back to see the responses to his question.

I couldn't vouch for which is best. However Fusion has some very nice offerings. They also have a "pics of long slides" thread in the Fusion section. I own one in 45 ACP. It is a great gun.

You guys have to stop this.
Walked into the local gun store this afternoon with the intention of picking up the leetle S&W Escort 22 they had there. Unique little gun, right next to it in the case was a Springfield loaded SS Long slide, with box and goodies.

Instead of coming home with one neat little gun, I now own this.

Dammit, I'll have to learn how to share photo's from my Picassa Albums.

your LB/SACS longslide is the MOST BEAUTIFUL longslide I have seen - from any source -

I have a few longslides and I have to now call Dave Williams to see what it would take to get a sister or cousin made.

Just beautiful!!!!
