Remington R1 for 515

Scheels has the 1911R1 for 515 a pop or 517, still pretty low price for what I'd consider a project/beat-em up, carry it all day workhorse. Now from what I gather that's more than a fair price and I'm wondering if I should bite? I have some money coming and I already plan on getting a Les Baer concept II and I was thinking of getting another lower cost 1911 for tinkering (RIA, Remington, Para GI SS) with the leftover cash...it's like christmas in January I know. I handled one and I was impressed, the frontstrap is really nice, the contours are slimmer than on the PI offerings...or is that just me? I looked at 2, one stuck a bit as I rode it back into battery and the spring felt a bit weak (not an issue, I like Wolff springs anyway) still everything was incredibly smooth, nice and tight, not a lot of play. Figure it's a good deal, just wondering how y'all feel about them? I really like the sights, simple, robust, easy to pick up.

Overall I want to keep the original sights and simply undercut the triggerjob and add some FS serration.

That's a good price. I've been eying one for some time. Prices are all over the place on them from low $500's to mid $700's. Maybe they just got a good deal on them. Love the finish on the RI. Very smooth. One of the guys I shoot with has one. It shoots really well.

If you want a gun to build on, it is a fine candidate, especially for that price.

I pretty much want something that works that I can do some simple mods to since I traded my RIA GI model off to a retired SEAL in exchange for a Cx4 Carbine (I threw a hundred bucks on top of it) awhile back nothing I have fits the bill.

Then it seems like the perfect candidate just fell into your lap.

I never get deals like that. Nice score if you pick it up.

I know, deals like this never fall into my lap but I am hesitant since I am planning on the Baer and I was going to hold off on a second one until this late spring/early summer and as much as I love my guns I always feel a bit silly when I just blow cash on what is essentially a new toy...what can I say? I grew up in a family of seven kids on an NCO's budget, frugality was bred into me...imagine the mental dialogue that lead up to the decision to buy the Baer?
