First KZ-45 cleaning...my questions?

OK...Like Wilson says, I didn't teardown until I shot 500 rounds through the gun. It performed great...not one problem.

Broke it down and have a few observations and questions:

The shok-buff was shreaded. I guess at 500 rounds it was to be expected?

I bought a FLGR to replace the "stubby" Wilson offers as stock. The stock is not plastic but its only about an inch or two long. I put in the FLGR and felt a noticable difference in the way the gun felt. The FLGR only adds 1 ounce but it did feel different. What is everyone else doing? I took it out to make sure I wasn't imagining the difference...but sure enough, the gun felt "right" with the stubby back in. In looking at the length of the spring plug and guide rod, the spring will not wander too far. I think it's a sound design but when you fisrt see it, it doesn't look right. Other opinions?

I also noticed on the front end part of the frame out where it's all polymer that it looked like it had been "machined" on one side to allow clearance for the bottom of the slide as it cycles back. At first, I thought it was the spring assembly that was gouging the frame but on close obervation, it looks like someone did it with a dremel or likes. Anyone else notice this on their KZ?

So, did anyone else notice any other problems?

Has anyone taken the KZ down further than normal routine?

Recoil spring is noted as #2G HD & Shok-Buff. Is this an 18.5# standard Wilson spring?

Has anyone replaced firing pin or hammer spring yet? Part #'s?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just put a new shock buff in and shoot it. FLGR (or not) is personal preference.

The main spring does not require replacement.
Firing pin spring replacement is debatable, but not at 500 rounds.

It looks like Wilson is making a modification to the frames of their new production KZ-45s. I have an older version of the KZ and the Armor Tuff near the left-side dustcover is wearing. I have seen a few KZ owners on this forum post the same type of wear. My guess is that Wilson made this modification to prevent people calling them to complaing about the finish wearing off.

Now that I think about it, time to call Wilson and have them refinish my gun!

I broke my KZ down but I can't find anything like you said... Can you describe exactly what you are talking about, or even better, take a picture?

My KZ is fairly new... The test target is dated July 3rd...

Xyxxy..

I'll try to get a pic next time I take it down...

It's the very front end on the frame. The u-shaped dust cover part. When the slide cycles back, the bottom of the slide (where the spring is).

As you look down into the frame, the left side of the "U" has been machined. The thickness of the black polymer is thinner on the left than the right due to this "machining".

Like Stealther says, it looks like if they didn't do this, the slide would rub against the polymer frame in the u-channel.

I'll try to get pics...

You can click these images for "stupid big" versions...

Right...

Left...

You have a good eye... In real life this is difficult to see... It is very exaggerated here due to the lighting...
