new 1911 9mm RIA
Bought my frist RIA and 1911 platform today in 9mm. so far i'm very happy with it. But i have a couple of questions.
Will the same mods work for the 9mm GI version as other 1911 GI platforms? grips hammers, triggers etc. Wheres the best place to buy mags i've always had good luck with mec gar? And is it possible to convert the 9mm to the 38 super (future question). |

besides the barrel and bushing obviously, the firing pin and extractor are different on 9mm/38 super The frame internals and control parts are the same Quote:
MidwayUSA, Natchez, Cabela's, Cheaper than Dirt, Brownell's, etc. Those are good outfits too BTW, Brownell's will have a whole gaggle of 1911 parts, from frames, to every pin and screw and every part in between . One of the TOP suppliers for new parts. Midway has a fair amount too Quote:
that's about it ..L.T.A. |

never converted mine, but don't see why it wouldn't be interchangeable Pull the barrel and bushing, and pop in the other. I'd "guess" you'd probably have to re-adjust extractor tension. cause 38 super is a semi rimmed case, and 9mm isn't . they use the same ext'r though ...L.T.A. |

Check out www.cdnninvestments.com for mags. I ordered 3 from there and they had the lowest price I found anywhere.
I don't think you can just swap the barrel and bushing. It might take a little fitting and that may make it hard to switch back. Best advice tis to give Dave or Arnel a buzz at Advanced Tactical. The email address is [email protected].

thanks for the info. I have no immediate plans for caliber conversion, and i probably do not have a need for it. I'm happy so far with the 9mm, although i need to shoot it more. I was more interested in learning that the standard 1911 drop in parts work in the 9mm....although i'm broke at the moment, and mags, ammo and a good carry holster come before any modifications like hammer, triggers and beaver tail
![]() I just purchased 2 Mecgar mags from greg cote, should be here by the end of the week. Last edited by velvalco; 10-09-2010 at 09:04 PM. |

some of the older 38 supers have a ramped barrel . Not sure when they dropped the ramped barrel, but my '07 year model wasn't ramped ..L.T.A. |
