Tucker The Answer review (pic heavy)

So I just got home from the PO with my new Tucker "the Answer" holster in hand for my Dan Wesson CBOB. The first thing that struck me when I pulled it out of the box was the quality of the construction. This is one solid piece!

Tucker's "the Answer" is one of the hybid leather/kydex holsters, as you can see. Kydex always gets a bad rap for scratching a pistol's finish, so the answer (pun intended) to this problem is to line the kydex with leather. Here's a close up of the leather lining.

My 1911 fit in it like a glove. I didn't need to adjust the 2 tension screws at all. I moved the clips around a bit to adjust the cant once I started trying it on. Below is a good pic of the nice backing that Tucker puts on these things. It really does make it feel nice and soft against your skin.

Here are some pics of it on with a light shirt concealing it. I was surprised how tight against my body, the answer held my commander size 1911. The weight of the all steel gun was very well supported on the 2 kydex clips.

Overall, its an amazing holster that really makes it easy to conceal a larger, heavier pistol like my CBOB. I'm sitting on the couch typing this out while wearing my new holster and barely notice its there. It draws very smoothly and quietly as well. Reholstering is also easy to do with one hand because of the kydex. This holster will likely see a lot of use, just like my other Tucker Gunleather products.

And no, I'm not affiliated with Tucker, I just love his stuff. Now I need to get some cash together to get that HF1 OWB holster I've been wanting.

I got one of the first, if not the first, 1911 answers ever made. It is nothing like the new Kydex bodies.

So, I emailed Rob a couple weeks ago with some issues, two years after purchase. He told me to send it back. Got a phone call on a Sunday asking about my concerns. They are replacing body and new version should arrive any day.

Great CS . Excellent warranty.... thanks Rob / Tucker.

I like the well lit pics. It kills me when someone says "hey check out how well my holster conceals" and shows a dimly lit photo where you can't see crap.

Simply awesome photos, especially of the inside of the holster. I have one of Rob's holsters, but I may have to add this one to my inventory.

Are you sure you aren't in sales?

Thanks, yeah I wanted to put photos up of me actually wearing/concealing the holster. I like looking at pics of pretty leather much as the next guy, but half the time I'm left wondering "how high does it ride? how tight to the body does it sit?".

I have one also, but i would note one item, and actually change on other:
The holster is kind of tough to slip "on and off" if you are wearing a t shirt unde an outer garment. the suede (which is comfy against skin) grabs the shirt and makes it tough to tuck inside your belt. The item I would change is the amount of leather between the body and the kydex clip in the front. There is not much distance there, and the holster has to bend around my hip there, so it sticks out more than (I think) it should. this may get better when it breaks in more. I also adjusted the cant (nice feature) to pull the grip in more to my kidney- it kindo of protruded before.

All that said, it is the fastest draw holster I have, and probably the most comfortable as well.

The Answer wasn't the answer for me. Its designed for the customer to position the assembly past 3 o'clock on the waist. Great for walking maybe, just not for me, my needs, and the way I'm put together.

Whatever you think of the product, you will admire the return policy. They treated me right.

Mine protrudes a tiny bit as well, but I'm sure it'll break in like my other boosters of this type.

StrykerDM, thank you for the review. Seeing that the holster does not cover the entire muzzle of the gun, can you tell me if the front sight ever snags on the holster when you draw? Or is there a sight channel built into the holster that prevents that from happening?

There is a sight channel of sorts built into it. My front sight doesn't touch leather at all. I'll try to take some pics later of it for you.

Great review, they are right you should work for him You did a much better job describing and showing the features of his holster than he does himself

Looks like a really nice rig.

Here's the sight channel I was asked about. When drawing, the front sight doesn't touch a thing.

That is great. Thank you for posting the picture of the holster's sight channel in relationship to your pistol. It certainly helps to see it. I really appreciate your effort. I think this holster is seriously worth considering.

I'm on vacation for a few weeks, so all my time is spent clicking through gun forums, playing video games, or reading this new novel I started . And as I said, pics like these I think really help people know what they're getting when they order a holster. Its hard to guess if you'll like something based on one picture on an internet sight. Sure, some holsters are pretty, but in the end, I think that a good holster needs to be functional and comfortable. I know more reviews like this would've helped me narrow down my options much quicker when I was picking out a holster for my new CBOB last month.

Thanks for the excellent review. What type of belt are you wearing with the holster? Does it work well with the holster?

After seeing this thread it reminded me of the Answer I got a couple years ago sitting in the holster drawer/pile. The old body style just didn't work for me.

So, I emailed Tucker of my concerns and sent the holster back.

I received the "New" version two days ago. The body had been completely replaced with the updated version.

They replaced my holster at No Charge after two years of ownership!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Props to Toner and the Tucker team. Hard to beat

Great service

Unfortunately, the Answer didn't work for me. It was not the fault of the holster as I just don't do IWB well. It's all about the body size and shape I believe. Seems when worn in the proper behind the hip position, the grip/frame jams into my back and I can't get around for a proper deployment. Way too much bending over and stretching my shoulder. Re-holstering was almost impossible. It's as if my waist is too high and my arms too long Anyhow, Rob took it back and gave me a refund.

I'm now exploring shoulder holsters and buying quality OWB holsters. When I have to go light, I'll switch over to the the J-frame or the LCP.. Ron

Very nice review! I've used Crossbreed Supertuck for a while now and the kydex does mar up my DW. I wish it too were leather lined like the Tucker. The only thing I would like to see added to the Tucker is to replace the Kydex belt clips with steel ones. I wonder if that's an option? Either way, I'm sure to look hard at Tucker for my next holster.
