IDPA Legal
I'm building a .45 ACP carry gun on a STI compact frame with a Commander length slide/barrel. I want to use a bull barrel that will be cut flush with the end of the slide. This will give me a barrel length of just under 4.20" which their web site says is the maximum legal length for bull barrel guns. But, they also say bull barrels are only allowed if factory installed. Does that mean if STI installs the barrel it will be ok, but if I install it the barrel will not be legal?

What the IDPA rules are referring to is the gun in that barrel length must be offered by the factory for sale to the general public. For example if STI only offers it with a 5" barrel you can not build one with a 4.2" barrel legally for use in competition.

That what I wanted to hear. STI is now building the VIPER, using the VIP length grip with a Commander length slide and bull barrel.
