I believe TLE stands for Tactical Law Enforement or something along those lines. The TLE II has only two distinct advantages over the basic Custom II:

1. Front strap and under trigger guard serrations (30lpi)
2. Meprolight night sites (3-dot fixed)

Hope this helps!

Ditto the above. The only real question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you like the night sights and front strap checkering enough to pay the extra money.

thanks guys, it doesnt seem like those 2 changes alone should make a new model, they should just be options for a custom II.

That would be true if Kimber made their guns to order like some of the semi custom shops. But they are mass produced and you just pick the one that you like the best-or can afford. By the way you can get a Custom II with night sights.

The Custom II TLE was the result of the LAPD SWAT Team spec'ing and ordering the Custom II with front strap checkering, and the night sights. Kimber knew that particular model would develope a following since it was being used by that law enforcement agency, so they market both models, and I'm glad they did it that way because I don't like night sights, and for what I use my Custom II for, front strap checkering wasn't a requirement.
