Disassembly Difficulty ?

I am considering doing a full detail strip of my HP. It will be my first time with one of these. So I'm looking for opinions here. I am competant to do the 1911 (both S70 and S80 Colt). Is the HP dramatically more difficult, anymore difficult, less so.....? Does it require a more sophistocated set of tools? Thanks much for the info.

" Is the HP dramatically more difficult".... Short answer; yes. A third hand is helpful. Lacking that, a piece of coat hanger bent to hold hammer in cocked position (hooked inside the magwell) is a great help for reassembling sear/disconnector. Go to "Hipowers and Handguns" site. I did the full disassembly of my Hi-Power years before I ever did it with my 1911s as part of an installation of a C&S extended thumb safety. It's not that hard. I succesfully used a clothes-pin repeatedly as the "third hand". I tried the wire-tie, but it did not work as well. I think all I used was a punch set, hammer and bench block, besides the "third hand".

My HP does not have the firing pin safety, so I don't know how that could complicate things.

I recall I lost the little spring behind the thumb safety plunger despite warnings to be carefull with it. So, be careful with that, if you're into that peice.

Perhaps I should modify my above statement to RE-assembly is moderately difficult your first time.
