Denver PD allows those w/firing pin safety, i.e. Colt series 80, Kimber II, Para. Lots of other agencies in the Denver area also but I don't know if the same restrictions apply, Aurora PD, Lakewood PD, Douglas County SO, Greenwood Village PD, Wheatridge PD, Thornton PD; to name a few.
Like a dummy I left out Littleton PD, easy to find Baer's TRS in holsters there. Last edited by doc45; 06-18-2006 at 12:22 AM. |

ISP carries Smith & Wesson 4566s
So how is that relative to the question of which departments/agencies allow 1911s?
I saw two henderson PD guys with 1911s today, so at least grandfathered in. Robert

Saw an Anaheim officer carrying a Para inside DL. Salinas PD (CA) just was authorized. I believe San Jose PD has been authorized for a few months now and the department I'm a reserve for has authorized them for a few years, Del Rey Oaks PD (CA)

Richmond Police Department, CA has allowed officers to purchase our own 1911's for duty since 1992 (the year we transitioned from revolvers to semi-autos). We have the distinction of being named the most violent city in California last year (#12 in the nation)...so a gun bred for war makes alot of sense for us.
And an interesting note....our former chief, W. Landsdowne, transitioned to the 1911 when he was with us...then became the chief of San Jose PD (where I understand the 1911 is authorized for their special response guys) and now is the chief of San Diego PD (who now authorize the 1911). Lou Tirona |
