Proof marks
I have a Colt 1911 made in 1919, the frame has HP overlapping which i no is correct but the slide has a single H above the fireing pin stop. Everyone says the stamping should be the same on the slide and the frame. Would that indicate they are not matching from the factory?

I believe that should be an H, not a P. The P on the slide and frame was on 1937 and later production.

You may spend a lot of money fixing things that weren't broken to begin with. Shoot it for at least 500 rounds, then decide what you don't like and want improved. Vintage 1911's should NEVER be refinished or modified because it ruins any value they had as a collectible firearm. |

I not clear on what you have typed. I would expect the barrel to have the intertwined HP marking and the rear of the slide to have the H.

The H on the back of the slide and on top of the frame were both struck with the same die when each pistol was inspected. They should match as far as overall size and shape is concerned. Just remember that markings struck at an angle often appear as if they are different.

The frame has the intertwined HP and the slide just the P. Is that how they were stamped in final inspection?

The OP was told (wrongly) the gun should have all intertwined HP's in all three places.

Pictures. Explaining things in words alone is a rare talent. Apparently very rare.
