Tomorrow will be "Valor Day"

Hi guys,
After a long search ( actually not so long, as I'll explain later) I decided to trade my Smith and Wesson 1911 for a superb Dan Wesson Valor SS.
I live in Italy and we have a serious issue with 1911's avaibility!
The only full line on the market is Kimber ( My opinion? To baaaaaaaaaad) and we can have some Colt's, STI and some used Wilsons.
The real problem is the price, that can be as high as 4000 usd for a used wilson or 2000 usd for a standard kimber.
My smith was not a bad gun at all but I just wanted more ( without spending a fortune) and luckily a dealer has imported some good Dan Wessons!!!!
My wife wanted to gave me a gift for our anniversary and...there it is, two phone calls and my Dan was in order
Tomorrow I'll go to pick it up and I really can't wait.
As soon as she will be in my hands I'll make some pictures and a range report.
I've read a lot of your posts before the great decison and I want to thank you all for your precious help.
P.S.
The price was 2800 usd but i got it for 2400 usd ( Not bad for my area)

Hey, it's only money. And money well spent, at that. Glad you could get a Valor over there.

Guys....wow, i mean....WOW!!!!
It is a real beauty!
Tight, extremely well done, far better than the smith and STI I've had.
The only thing that surprised me is that is very difficult to remove and re install the holdopen. ( it was easy with sw and sti)
Now a milt spark summer specian and an alessi watch-6 are comeing
here's a quick i-phone pic ( btw, yes we also have I-phones...we're almost a civil country...):

Very nice new gun and holsters.

I am curious, what do you do for work and what are the laws like surrounding pistols in Italy?

Can a citizen carry a pistol with a government permit, or do you need to be in law enforcement?

Can you keep it in your home, ready to go, for self-defense or must it be stored, locked and separate from ammo?

I have been to Italy twice and will probably be coming over there again next year, so long as things remain stable.

I'm the security manager for a pharmaceutical company and I have the CCW but here in Italy is very difficult to obtain for a private citizens ( some jewellers, medician and lawyers has). In theory is easy to keep a weapon for home defence ( only a simple request to the police department is needed) but Italian pubblic opinion is totally against guns...and if you have a gun, common people tend to consider you a dangerous person.

That would explain why the friend of my aunt's, who is part of the town Policia, was somewhat surprised at some of the pictures I had on my phone of a few of my firearms. Of course, she wanted to come to the US and shoot them. Good for you for being able to defend yourself! It makes me feel a little better knowing that at least SOME good citizens are armed, not only the criminals. My favorite store in Italy so far is coltelleria la lama, in Sengallia.

Totally aside, what part of Italy are you in? I have spent most of my time there in the Marche region, and up to Lake Garda. Besides the flights in and out of Rome I have never actually been into the big cities. My next trip I hope to go with my girlfriend and be able to play "tourist" a little more.

Do you know if there are any factory tours for the Italian gun makers?

I live in the "caput mundi" ( the top of the World )...ROME!!!
If you'll stop by please, let me know i'll be' happy to show you my beautifull town.
As far as i know, no factory tours but near Garda lake there is the only italian 1911's gunsmith Mr. Dallera of the ADC custom.

Nice, i just paid full price for my Dan Wesson black Vbob so you just made me feel a lot better, thanks, Not to worry, you made the right decision, Dan Wesson is better than Kimber, Also as far as the holdpen being a lot easier on your S&W is because the Dan Wesson is made a lot tighter it is just a better built gun. My vbob is so tight the first time to the range out of 116 rounds i had 3 minor jams, nothing serious at all it was just because the gun is so tight, they say you need to send at least 300-500 rounds through it before the gun can operate flawlessly. Congratulations on your purchase, well done.
