I'm impressed!

I ordered a SR1911 last summer from a small LGS and he hasn't seen the first one yet. Stopped at a different gun shop on the way to go turkey hunting and he just happened to have one. Price was $650 and I pretended to have to think about it.... There are no cosmetic flaws and field stripping and cleaning didn't show any significant machining issues. All in all it's a real nice looking gun.

I didn't have a lot of time to shoot today but had to road test it. I ran 54 rounds through the gun...American Eagle hardball and 4 different handloads while switching between the two mags. No problems or malfunctions and outstanding accuracy. I used 230 XTP's, 201 RCBS SWC's, 230 Lee TC's and Hornady 230 FMJ and all shot well. The trigger breaks clean and crisp...maybe just a little heavier than I like but still very shootable IMO.

I didn't have time to try to shoot groups...mostly just wanted to see where it was shooting with the different loads. This was off hand at 25 yards. Excepting the called flyers I'm thinking the gun is probably easily capable of 2" groups at 25 yards.

Very well done! For the 1st time ever shooting your Ruger you should be very satisfied with this outcome since you know it will probably only get better as the gun gets broken in and you get more and more used to it. Nice JOB!!

Well done! Good shooting for a first outing. You got a good price too, congrats.

I'm discovering what a lot of you 1911 veterans have known all along. I LIKE the 1911 platform. The intro of the SR1911 stirred up the desire to get get my first one but it began to get very frustrating trying to find one. I peddled some toys and took the plunge last December and bought a Les Baer UTC. The Baer and I got off to a rocky start but they made it right and now it's becoming family. Then I picked up a Dan Wesson Heritage which has been flawless right out of the gate.
I got to thinking that an SR would probably be a bit of a disappointment in comparison to the higher end guns....until I stumbled on this one. The trigger isn't quite as sweet and it's not quite as tight (the Baer is beyond tight!) but this gun is certainly not disappointing! Ruger got it right IMO. Now to begin the long wait for Ruger to make a bobtail commander.....
