RO range report
Today I took my new Range Officer out to shoot with pretty high expectations. Just yesterday when I got it home I field stripped it and scrubbed it out good and lubed with FP-10 (If theres something better for the slide rails I'm open to suggestions, this stuff works the berries for my Glocks however). I took both of the new Springfield mags that came with the RO as well as one new blue Colt seven rounder with the dimpled follower and a Wilson 8 rounder. The clips were loaded prior to me heading out for the range so they were only loaded for an hour. Anyhow I had a Wally World Winchester 100rnd box of 230gr FMJ and a 50rnd box Winchester 230gr JHP. I also brought a box of 200gr swc handloads and a box of 230gr XTP handloads. I kept the FP-10 nearby so I could keep the rails wet every 4-6 magazines fired. The first fifty rounds of factory FMJ went down range without a pip and wow, what a nice bunch of groups I was getting. This really is match grade shootin'! Somewhere in the next fifty rounds I had two failures to go into battery on the last round with the single Colt mag and one of the Springer mags. Then I started on the factory JHP box and within the first twenty five rounds I had a stove pipe just before the last round with the Wilson mag. In all three cases I simply cleared the gun and reloaded that last round by itself in the mag that it was in and re-racked the slide and fired no problem. The final 25 rounds of JHP went down range without at hitch and then I started on the handloads I had brought. Well, the RO sailed through the last two boxes of handloads without a problem, not a single malfunction at all in the last 125rounds and the accuracy definitely got better and the final groups were like 1-1.5" easy with some wicked 3 and 4 shot single hole groups. I was mighty impressed. Naturally I'd hoped to get a flawless first day at the range as so many seem to have gotten but I'm still quite happy with how things turned out. Keeping my fingers crossed I've seen the last of the malfunctions in this gun as she breaks in! My high expectations were met and then some. The new RO is a keeper.

Congrats on the new RO. It's a great gun.
I've been using lubriplate grease on mine. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=6...IL-SPEC-GREASE |

I use shooters choice grease on mine and its worked well. I had some feeding and stove pipe issues with my RO and Wilson mags, when I use the factory mags I have no problems. I have about 500 rounds through it and maybe 4 malfunctions but I haven't had one in the last 200 rounds and its all been with factory FMJ ammo.

Thanks for the grease tips, I'll try one or the other. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the Wilson magazines. I only have one at the time being I think and it's an 8 rounder that I can only use seven in with this gun anyhow. I cleaned and relubed the gun today and will strip and clean out the magazines tomorrow. Think I'll just stick with the factory Springfield or Colt mags with the dimpled followers from now on. Only reason I ever bought the Wilson mags was because the FBI requested them with the SPringfield Bureau Model and that gun supposedly works with them. But I'm liking the RO very much and can't wait to do a big batch of reloads and carry on with the good shootin' soon!

Congrats on the new RO!
I've been using Brian Enos' Slide Glide Lite on all my 1911s, including my RO. I used to use FP-10 but prefer the qualities of the grease more. |

MILITEC-1: OMG best grease ever, and it will last and last.
Once the first couple of drops, you only need to grease the gun up every 1-2000 rds. Although that's what the directions say, you know as well as I 45's like to be run a lil bit wetter so I'll put in A FEW drops after cleaning. It's butter. I swear I can feel a difference than when I using hoppe's or ballistol ( actually I still use ballistol for cleaning. |

I use Weapons Shield grease on all my pistols and have achieved near 100% reliability from all, including my RO and two other 1911's. Miltec is good stuff too. 1911's and SIG's need grease, not oil. Apply with the small end of a gun cleaning brush and remeber-a little goes a long way!

I think I'll switch to Wolff 18.5lb recoil springs while I'm at it. From what I've read it corrects that last round FTB failures I experienced. I know my reloads were both markedly less recoilling than the WWB factory ammo I was shooting and I had zero problems with them not to mention the gun was already pretty fouled from 150 straight rounds of factory ammo shot before I started on the reloads. I seem to remember having a series 80 Gold Cup I bought used that jammed quite a bit with the factory 14lb recoil spring and after adding an 18.5 lb Wolff or Wilson spring she never jammed again. Does anybody know if the extra firing pin spring included with the Wolff spring kit will fit on our Springfield titanium firing pins? Thanks
