I must be a lunatic. Does it take anyone else almost two hours to clean their 1911? My wife thinks I'm crazy; and for once I think she may be right! I can't help it though; I can't have one speck of dirt on my pistol or it will irritate me. I'm not like this with anything else, but my TLE gets an A+ treatment after every range session. Oh well, maybe that's why I've never had any failures with her.
It take me forever to get my stuff clean too. I'm very "specific" about how they are cleaned. If I've been at the range with multiple guns that day I could be cleaning guns for days. The 1911's get special treatment while the Sig's and Glocks get cleaned at my leisure.
lolz it is 7 years old, who cares though. i field strip mine every range trip 30 min, complete disassembly and inspection every 500, bout an hour and a half, but i also dont look at it as a chore and rather enjoy cleaning my gun.
Between the Sig P238 and the Springfield Armory EMP 40 I usually take between 2-3 hours, I do a complete take down of both pistols, and soak all metal parts in solvent for twenty minutes, Then I clean them with CLP Break Free, And then finish with Hoppe's #9 , As I put them back together I wipe each part a final time lightly soaked in Hoppe"s and reassemble then when both are back together I go over both with a polishing cloth, and again a different even lighter soaked cloth with Hoppe's before putting them away, I am anal as sh!+ with all of my guns, This is nothing right now I only have the two, There was a time when I had much more and could take the better portion of a half day. lol They have to be show room clean at all times and I do this everytime they go out to shoot. Infact I'm about to start now I am slacking I went Sunday and just haven't had the time to do it.
I love cleaning my AMC commander. After a range session, I spend about 2 hours or so breaking it down, cleaning it ritualistically, soaking the parts in solvent, then oil, then reassembling.. I do full trigger group break downs to verify all parts are still in perfect working condition before reassembly. I dont like to half ass cleaning my gun, because it has to be soaking wet in oil to work properly it seems haha
