357 sig in a 1911???
I have to say I like the idea. 357sig is a great round. 1911 is a great gun. will this match-up work?

A few years ago, I got a Delta Elite, and I purchased a 357 SIG barrel for it.
Eventually, I got it to work reasonably well, but it wasn't easy. It can be done, but I prefer the 9x23mm Winchester cartridge in the 1911 type pistol. |

I've been told by a couple decent smiffs that the .357 SIG is not a good fit in the 1911 platform. Something to do with cartridge length combined with the bottleneck.
No personal experience, mind you. |

Feeding a 9mm bullet in a .40 hole will be like butter................... Troll

My Glock 31 is superbly accurate and reliable. I have thought for years about getting a 357 Sig in 1911 format.

I can't see how the bottleneck would be a negative but the OAL of the cartridge presents the same problem as 9mm and 40. The 1911 was designed with the OAL of the 45 ACP in mind. The 38 super and 10mm use the same basic OAL. Can it be done? yes. Have there been issues with guns in the shorter calibers? Yes again.

Now the length of the cartridge does concern me, but if they can make 1911's to fire 9mm and 40 cal reliably, then .357 Sig shouldn't be any different. |
