TRP ammo issue
Went to the range with the TRP today. Round count is up to 550. I haven't had one issue until my buddy handed me some hornaday 185 FTX critical defense. I had 15 rounds of it. Of that I had 10 Feed failures. Afterwards I fired 20 rounds of golden saber hollow points, 20 Corbon hollow points, and 100 more fmj reloads with no issues. It's no biggie, I just won't use that particular ammo. I was curious if anybody had any issues with this particular ammo?

Thanks for the warning.
I'm expecting my new TRP to arrive any day. I'll skip that ammo choice.

I haven't tried hornaday 185 FTX critical defense in my TRP, but it has worked well with Golden Sabre, WWB and my reloads.

Last weekend I shot 50 rounds of PMC 230 gr. FMJ and 50 rounds of 185 gr. JHP out of my TRP with not one single problem. I know that they weren't the Honaday 185 FTX CDs so I wonder what they do differently.

Some guns just don't like a certain bullet. I've got a 9mm that just won't use Berry bullets. I suppose I could have it worked on but it shoots everything else great and there are too many choices for me to worry about why it won't shoot Berry Bullets. Unless it is a deal killer stay away from he hornaday.

I put about 3 boxes of the critical defense through my TRP with no issues. Each gun is different which is why you should always test your ammo before deciding to carry it.

I put about 15 rounds of the 185gr FTX CD rounds through my SA Loaded this past weekend without issue. Got a nice fist-size grouping at 15yds. Sounds like your pistol just doesn't like the round. At least there are plenty of others to choose from :-)

That Hornady Critical Defense ammo is trouble in a lot of guns. Some do fine, others just hate it. Maybe that pencil eraser they put in the tip of it is rubbing on your feed ramp. I think if they recessed it about .020" no one would have issues. Other than that the bullet design itself looks fine.

The few that fed correctly were missing the red plug. It was a little disconcerting at first lol. Once I switched ammo, everything was fine. It ate everything else just fine so I will avoid that particular round. Just goes to show that you need to shoot your self defense ammo before you carry it.

I got them from a friend. His kids thought it was fun to pull them out.

Thanks for the info. I haven't put any home defense rounds through my TRP as of yet. The Remington UMC worked without any problems and i will put another 200 rounds of the UMC through it this weekend.
