Looking to get a range bag for my 1911's. What have you been using? I have looked at a few and all seem to be made for double stack guns for the magazine holders. I need one side to be for a 45 and the other for a 9mm.

I would take a pass on the Midway bags. The price is nice, but when I was looking for a carbine case I found all the Midway branded items were chinese made. Granted they may have changed that, but it was only a year ago.

I have the large Midway range bag and it has held up well for the past year. I normally have 3-4 guns, 250-350 rounds of various calibers, misc tools, ears, rags, water bottle and snacks. I would estimate the weight to be around 40lbs. It's a big bag but works well for me and the items I take. I don't throw it around, drag it behind my truck, set it on fire or shoot it so I cannot comment on how well it holds up to serious abuse.

I also have 12 of the smaller pistol cases that go on sale for $6.99. These little bags/ cases are great for the price. I have one for every pistol I have. I did have to send two back because they were damaged/ torn when I received them but it was a painless process.

Now for the bad. The magazine holders/ pockets on the smaller cases are not all the same size. My double stack magazines do not fit in all if them. The stitching on both bags is not the best in some areas. My older 5.11 backpack and pistol cases are stitched much better but at 3 times the cost. I would pay an additional $3-$4 for the smaller pistol cases and $7-$10 for the larger range bag if they would have used YKK zippers and stitched them a little better.

Overall for the price and options (pockets/ compartments), they are hard to beat.

I have a 5.11 tactical bag, it's large but holds what I need at the range and they are very well made. They occasionally go on sale for about half price.

If all you need is a bag to carry your pistols and magazines to the range, look at the NCstar bags on eBay, only $10 shipped free. They hold two pistols and have an elastic web that will hold 6 magazines. These are not as heavily padded as some bags, but I always put them in my range bag, so they work for me. I also use the Midway pistol bags, but they only hold one pistol.

If you want a "range" bag, the large Midway bag is hard to beat. I can put 3 of the pistol bags inside with all my ammo, hearing protectors, etc. in the ammo carrier that comes with the large bag.

I have the Ishot Tournament bag and love it. Too bad they don't make it anymore.

I think CED bags are quite similar.

Another vote for the 5.11 bag. It's well made and holds as much as I care to carry. It isn't cheap but the cheap bags don't last long. Competitive Edge Dynamics also makes a good bag, my last bag was their backpack style range bag. I used it steady for about 15 years and it's still in good shape. I just grew tired of the backpack design, but they make others. CED also offers bags without the "tactical" look, which some folks prefer.
