Kimber Pro Raptor II

Hi everyone,

I've been reading a lot of these threads for the past few days to try and see what I could find out about Kimber 1911 pistols. I really want to thank all of you forum contributors. I've read a lot of posts and found a lot of helpful information. I've been set on a 1911 for a pretty long time, and finally had the money for one. I'm a proud new owner of a Kimber Pro Raptor II. This is my first 1911, though I've shot a few different 1911's in the past. I'll get to take it to the range and fire it for the first time tomorrow. I wanted to show it off of course, and also see what experiences you guys have had with the Pro Raptor II.

Thanks!

Congrats on getting such a fine weapon. I have the Grand Raptor and could not be happier with it. Just a suggestion, since you said that this is your first 1911, take the time to study your weapon and understand the workings of a 1911. After that clean and lube well, be safe and enjoy the heck out of her.

Have fun and be careful out there!!!

I have the same... been through a number of other .45 / 1911's and as my benchmark, I use my old & trusty Sig P220. (this is one gun I'll never part with)

After the second time out with the Kimber, I couldn't be happier. Feels great, presents on mark and puts the 230g fastballs right where I want them to go.

So, this became my everyday carry and the Sig?... well, she's always ready to go and just might head to the spa for some "unique bodywork".

My ONLY "negative" is after years of field stripping the Sig, the 1911 platform, especially the Kimber until you find the sweet spot on the takedown pin, is no where near as fast or as easy, but maybe this will change with practice.

Finally, a 1911 I would trust my life on!

Thanks everyone!

Before shooting today, I field stripped, cleaned, and reassembled before shooting in order to familiarize myself with the 1911 and it's features.

I put 200 rounds of the 230gr. Remington UMC factory loads through it today and I couldn't have been happier with the way it shoots. It's very accurate and fun to shoot. It has a great feel in my hand and a smooth trigger. I hope that with a little practice, I'll be just as good at shooting targets as my raptor is.

I only went through 200 rounds, but had no FTF or ejector problems to speak of. I used the standard magazine that came with the gun, as well as a Wilson Combat 47D. (Thanks to those suggesting them).

I still have to break it in completely and practice a lot more, but I couldn't be happier with my new gun!

Nice Raptor. I read till my head was going to explode about 1911's.
I bought a Raptor as well .I'm very happy with it. Its the type of Gun that becomes a family heirloom if kept well.
Enjoy it.

Go ahead and order some new recoil springs from Wolff at gunsprings.com, or get em on backorder through midway. The Pro and Compact models half a very low spring life, but the XP Wolff springs will remedy this

I just bought a Pro Raptor 2 last Friday and cleaned her up and took her and the wife to the range Saturday afternoon. It is a beautiful weapon. Put about 200 rounds through it with no malfunctions at all. Did all of the shooting at 7 yards since I am trying to get the wife more comfortable shooting. She shot her new Ruger LCP and she liked it as it is her new carry gun. Then I asked her if she wanted to shoot the Kimber at first she said no but I said to try it. Well 100 rounds later she loves it. Told her it was mine and she wanted one I would get it for her.

Very accurate pistol. Most of the rounds went through the same hole. Nothing out side of 3 inches shooting off hand using 230 Armscor FMJ ammo. Very nice shooter. Grips are very comfortable and the night sights are very good.

This is my first Kimber and it is a real pleasure to shoot and it is a pretty gun too.

If you were going to replace the recoil spring what poundage would you recommend?
