Refinishing a PT1911 question.

I would like to have my PT1911 refinished/re-blued. What I am looking for is the highly polished blueing as one would see on a Browning Hi-Power as well as having the roll-marks on the slide removed.

My questions are:

~ What is this type of blueing called?

~ Is this something someone can do at home?

~ If not, who does this type of refinishing and what kind of price am I looking at?

Many thanks for all the knowledge that has been shared already. I've been lurking for a few months and am pleasantly surprised at how well this forum is manned and how well the members treat one another. As you guys know, that is NOT the norm on internet message boards. Mucho drama.

Good stuff here! Thanks!

Depending on your area you could get a gun refinished in high polish and matte blue locally. I was fortunate that a group of local boys do blueing on a project I had and it wasn't expense ($100). They suggested the matte with the polished flats. For other options you could do:

Carbonia Bluing
Charcoal Color Case Hardening
Cyanide Color Case Hardening
Slow Rust Bluing
Hot Salt Bluing
Nitre Bluing
