Lou, not to be flippant but can you spot .008 difference in a picture? It was never claimed that the original smith did a sloppy job, merely that the slot was modified for another bushing and because of lead time on an EGW this bushing was plan B.

The OP appears happy with the response and resolution (which as I read it was plan A).

OP is, indeed, happy with the response and resolution.

My only regret is not being able to shoot the Commander for a couple of weeks or however long it takes to get it measured, another bushing machined and installed.

Besides, I have a friend fighting for her life with cancer and death is hammering on her door.

It's just a gun to me.

Afterall, I chose to take off down the "modified 1911" path without knowing squat about what I was doing.

I wouldn't worry as much about the cosmetics of the weld buildup as I would be wondering what is causing that gouge in the bushing barrel at the front leading-edge of the tab.

I'm just saying, the slot looks fine to me,no shiny spots,no burrs, try a stock bushing before paying a pile of money to the same guy for an oversize bushing, that's the first thing I'd do if he brought it to me to fix it.And,if the first smith modified the slot for a bushing, don't look now,but he did do a crappy job,you NEVER remove metal from the slide to fit a bushing...Two minutes to check it with another bushing, maybe save 100 bucks. It's his money,he can do as he wishes,he asked for advice,I gave it..
