I just found a Special Forces SS and was wondering about the age. The gun has been shot very little, but has what seems to be a low serial number...71XX
Anybody give me any idea as to the age of this gun?
My SF is all custom including the serial number (I was surprised at how many were available). When I got my second one, I tried and got the same number on a full size. Love both of them.
According to the annual firearms manufacturing and export reports (1998-2012)
- 1998-2009: Ed Brown sold 6059 guns, info for 2003 is missing, a good guess would be 300
- 2010: Ed Brown sold 1876 guns
I did call them this morning and yes it is a 2010 production. That was all the info they would give me though without paying for it and getting a letter with Ed's signature.
For a quick estimate check the year on the night sights if so equipped, should put you in the ballpark. It's a handy tool if you are looking at an EB at a show or GS and IF no one returned the sight to have it replaced under warranty. A phone call during business hours as you found out will verify the production year.
