I need some help deciding which 1911 to buy. I recently bought a Sig Scorpion which is an awesome looking gun however I think I got a lemon and had nothing but problems with it. I ended up selling it. I bought it because of the look and it had a rail. I love 1911's with rails. I will be using this gun for some competition shooting (uspsa) but I am just a beginner and doing it for fun.

So some of the ones I am looking at are the Springfield RO, Springfield TRP Operator and the STI Trojan and Duty One. My budget is anywhere from $800 to about $1400 OTD. I don't want to go over that and I know the TRP is probably over that. The more I look at STI's, the more I am liking them.

After my recent experience I want a gun that is awesome right out of the box that is reliable and will shoot like a dream.

What do you guys suggest? Any other ones I should look at?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Yes for looks plus I have a light to put on it so if I ever need a gun with a light at home I can pull it out. The Dan Wesson is a great gun but I need to put a limit on my budget and stick to it or I'll just keep raising my limit.

Right now I am between a STI Duty One and a Springfield TRP operator but that easily change the more I keep looking

I say Duty One, from your list and with your budget.

First off any pistol from any manufacturer can have a problem.
No matter how much or how little you pay.
I have seen $3000 pistol's that had issues.
I have had and seen $600 1911's work flawless.
The STI, i would rank higher than the Sig 1911.
Customer service is better at STi also.
Customer service at Dan Wesson is also second to none.
The Wesson however has a better selection of parts.
So go for it if you like it.
But my choice would be Colt rail gun or the Dan Wesson Specialist.
The Specialist would be my no. one choice!
You cant go wrong w/any of the three.

I agree...you'll be happy with it. My TRP Operator is one fantastic shooting 1911. Smooth, accurate, well balanced, very reliable and can eat all ammo. Well done.

What kind of problems was your Sig having? I also have the 5'' Scorpion and it's no push-over by any means. Sig 1911 are very high quality...pretty much up there with the TRP.

I did look at the problems I was having with the Sig...made a bunch of different modifications to it and still had issues. I just didn't trust it anymore. I know Sig makes good products but with all the reviews I read about them a lot of people had the same issue I had. I think I just got a lemon. Thats in the past now...moving on to the TRP and not looking back.
