HI Guys,

I have a question, I am in the middle of filling for NYC gun permit for home protection. Dose anyone have experience with regards to the In person interview with the police officer or during the face to face screening?
I will be having mine in 1 Police Plaza in NY NY.
I'm ok with the paperwork just was wondering if anyone knows the full procedure and has gotten the licensee there?
And can give me any pointers to ace the interview.

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
Roman.

Join NYPD that's the only way you can carry in NYC (Legally)
Home permits no big deal but you will lose it for any gun related violation.
Good Luck

I live in Suffolk County on Long Island. I don't know information to help you, but would LOVE to hear what happens with you on this with as much detail as you care to share.

Dear Luke,

I will let you know all the details once I get for home protection.

I will also be blogging about it with all the details to help people.

All i know all summences need to be posted on the application.
Preferably dismissed but all of them.

Even stupid little ticket can cause you the deal so have to wait till its dismissed or processed paid or dismissed.

I also have permanent residence in Florida so either way im getting it.

Nope, I live in Florida where we have the right to protect ourselves anywhere. Ya'll need a permit to protect your home??

You now Sir,
Ny is a very messed up place.
Our mayor Bloomer who was mayor for 4 terms or more unlike others.
He said that all gun owners who are not law enforcement are criminals.
And besides if there were more private non law enforcement gun owners in NY we would have a lot less crime.
Case the criminals get the weapons illegally anyways.
And that is why I want to succeeded in this endeavor.
And prove we still live in the USA.
Which is the land of the free and land of opportunity.

So it will be something I will accomplish.

I'm primarily in NY actually, That is the issue if I would reside mostly in Florida I would just purchase a handgun there. It would not be an issue since I have no criminal records and my driving record is clean. I guess after the 7 day waiting period I would get one and no issues.

Thanks,
Roman.

I hate to tell you this but do not think you will get your permit. A couple of my friends were high up with the NYC Fire Department and their credentials were top self. One spent two yrs trying to get a permit. He finally did but only after moving to the northern part of the state and forgetting about EVER carrying in NYC.

The other hired an attorney, got aid from the NRA and five years later, he died and still did not have the permit.

I am on 18 different dedicated firearm forums and not one person in NY on any of the forums ever received a permit to carry in NYC. It is often the subject of conversation on gun websites

Read the first paragraph at the following site:

http://www.ehow.com/how_2064614_get-permit-carry-concealed-weapon.html

See where it says it is "virtually impossible to get a permit in NYC"

There is a web site that gives the stats on NYC for permits. The fee for such is high and non refundable. I think the last yr posted is for 2002 and only a couple hundred home permits were issued out of more than a thousand apps. It appears you have to live in the very high dollar neighborhoods to get one.

Move to a state where you do not need one. Louisiana does not require a permit to buy a gun. No permit to have one loaded in your home or car. No permit to carry one openly and a five year permit for concealed carry is easily obtained and carries reciprocity with 37 other states.

As I understand from what I read in the posted link, those figures are for the entire state. Getting approval for gun reasons is easier outside NYC.

Speaking of which, do you happen to know of the outcome of the Marine and the female doctor / RN or whatever that was arrested and facing years in jail over admitting to police they had a concealed weapon?

First off...if you apply for the permit, have a clean record, all paperwork in order, no skeletons in the closet and cash in hand, you WILL GET A PREMISES PERMIT IN NYC. It will take 4-6 months, yes, there are a few horror stories, but they can't deny you. Good Luck, let us know when you get it..

Oh, and you don't need an expediter or whatever they are called. Save your money, buy more ammo. Only reason to get an attorney involved in the NYC permit process, is if you are going for a business carry license or have a problem in your past....other than a Ickes or two.

I don't have anything serous in past. I mean I was never handcuffed or detained by the police. I was given summonses and the only problem is the one i got recently. First one in like over 3 years for jogging at night where it appear to be a park area. These little things could be problematic. NY has very hard core laws. If it was another state most of other states I could perhaps qualify for a Carry license or even an counseled carry one.

My grievance is that some guy in a BMW drives drunk and lies and uses dis-honest tack-ticks and gets away with a huge violation drunken driving where i get a ticket for jogging in the park at night. It seems cops protect these people Because of money or i don't know what or why.

I'd be far more eager to move to a state where it was legal to jog at any time of day whatsoever, than trying to get a CCW in NY. I highly suspect the former is more easily obtainable than the latter.

What does Florida or what kind of car someone else drive have to do with your ability to get permission to own a gun in NY?

My bet is on, denial. Bloomberg's military is all you need to be safe, don't you believe him?

The face to face interview will ask you about every 911 call you or your spouse have every made, your background, your mental status, why you want a firearm, etc. Do not answer any of the questions "because it is my 2nd amendment right, etc".

Be honest. Do not appear to be uncomfortable; nervous is fine, uncomfortable can be a red flag.

Like others have posted, it will take 4 to 6 months. You may be denied, you may not. If you are denied, I believe they are required to explain their reasoning.

Home / premises permits are tricky because I believe you cannot leave the home with it. Which means no range time. I could be wrong; as I did a ton of research a few years ago but remember reading about the downsides.

Your consultant / attorney should have all the updated info. Good luck

I will try my best not to appear uncomfortable or nervous during the interview.

Thanks for the advice.
I truly appreciate it.

As with anything I want to get it the legal way.

West side range in NY, NY also has service for setting up a concealed licensee for carry valid in over 37 states. Something worth also acknowledging. All except NY lol.

Hope full will get this done.
I do have summons that needs to be cleared up before applying.
But I was never arrested where they slapped the cuffs on me so I think I will be fine.
This is only slowing the process for me but it wont hinder it.

I also know that now the back ground FBI checks are taking very long time so this might take more then 4 months or the full 6 months. I was told by the specialist who was doing the paperwork that it takes under 4 months usually and most of his people get licenses.

So far getting the paperwork finished.

I have co habitat form that's ok and a safeguard form that needs to be re-dun because the notary did not initial just stamped the document.

When I try to dispute or close the summons then I believe I can start the application process in peace.

After filing papers can study the laws and how to pass the in person police screening. As well as a firearms safety course will be given prior to the screening.

Thanks Everyone.

Hopefully I will get license and enjoy some range time.

Target/Hunting/Premises are the most popular permits issued in NYC. In the interview they will spend most of the time telling you essentially that you arent qualified to defend yourself, youare better off calling 911 you are not Charles Bronson etc. If you have a clean record you will get your permit. If you hunt make sure your NY hunting license is current and bring it or a copy. If you join a target or bullseye club bring your membership card. Otherwise they will issue you a premises permit. Make sure you ask for Target Priveleges as they call them. As reiterated your 2nd Amendment rights are not respected in downstate NY.
Good Luck

Hi John,

I have asked the guy who will be helping me with the application to add the hunting and target range premise on the permit so that I can practice with the pistol and not just let it rust in the safe. I will try not to be nervous or set of any red flags. And I will try to explain everything they ask to convince I'm of sound mental health and its my right to poses a firearm in accordance to the second amendment. And try not to overstate things as to seem anctious or cause any red flags with them.

:hrm:

If that's what NY has done to you, you need to get out, like fast! You are still in America, even though it's NY, it may not seem like it. There are no laws holding you accountable for how someone else "feels". :) That's where Taekwondo might come in handy. :D
