I've toyed with the idea of taking one of mine and making it all black like another member did here. Blued would be very cool too.

I would certainly prefer blue as I'm not terribly fond of stainless (unless its blackened, I.e. the black SR9/40).
I'd imagine that if one wants a "blue" SR1911, it'll have to be coated. I'm most likely going to go that route at some point.

Nah, I already have enough black guns.

BLUE does not equal BLACK. To the OP, YES - I'd gladly trade my SS SR1911 for a nicely-blued one. Maybe they'll make them one day.

If it was an option, I would have bought a blued gun over the stainless.

Blue looks pretty close to a matte black. I have too many black toned guns. Happy?

Just curious...what makes you want a blued gun over a stainless? Just prefer the look (old school) or that it conceals better (not size, but visibility) ?
I have stainless, two toned, blue, and parkerized...I have come to prefer the stainless models mainly because if you do get small scratches on the finish, they are much easier to polish and remove. I don't CCW my 1911s, so I'm not concerned about the "visibility" factor. Parkerized is the least favorite of mine, based solely on finish...but it does have the old WWII look to it. |

I just like the look of a classic blue. I'm a sucker for honest wear and a blued gun that only has about 70% of it's original finish is dead nuts sexy to me. Nothin' I hate more than a pristine safe queen. Not a fan of scratches, but bluing wear - that's what it's all about.

That said, I can absolutely understand why you'd want to get something on the opposite end of the color spectrum for something totally different. Variety is the spice of life, after all. Last edited by vh20; 05-18-2012 at 04:13 PM. |

I agree a blued gun is very classy. I prefer a blue myself. If Ruger built one, I'd add it to my collection.

Keep in mind a blue SR would likely turn purple after a while.....

Making it just that much better! Nothin' like a plum Ruger.

Huh? I know some Series 70 Colts did this, but generally blued guns do not turn purple.

I would love to have a blued SR1911. Not matte black, but a deep luster blued version would be cool, IMO. Having said that, however, I like the stainless too.

I wouldn't mind a blued SR1911 but would prefer a black Nitride.

C'mon man! Let's get that commander size SR1911 in the works first before we go reachin for the blued or parkarized version. Besides, I don't know how much more my wallet could afford. Love my SR1911 just the way it is....nice and stainless!
