Decided on a Range Officer
After much deliberation and a few opinion threads I started I made my choice...a R.O.
What I was looking for was a 1911 without front cocking serration’s, no guide rod, no ambi safety, needed to have a beaver tail, and it needed to be fit and finished well, oh and it needed to be under $1400. You would think it would be easy to find a 1911 that fit that description... WRONG!!!! Surprisingly most 1911s out there now at days are either plane jane or built with every fancy option possible. The only options I found were Ed Browns, Les Bears, or Dan Wessons, all of which were out of my price range. So one day I went on the SA web site and looked at the range officer. I thought to myself “ Hey thats exactly what I am looking for except that rear sight has to go”. So I did my research and found a replacement site from Harrison that looks very nice and will aid the pistol to serve its purpose for me at least...carry. So I went to Gun Broker found one for a little over $700 and it is on its way home now. The Harrison sight has also been purchased. I am excited to say the least that my MIL SPEC is finally going to have a budy to share the gun case with. PICS will be up as soon as I get it. Also will include info on the sight replacement. |

Shock, I think you'll really like the RO. Got mine back in Feb. same route through G-B. The prices seem to be dropping and you can find good deals on them. I'm interested in changing out the rear sight too. Can you post the part # for the Harrison? Good luck with it.

Great decision with the RO. It's a phenominal 1911 and is tough to beat in its price category. I bought mine about a month ago, had it for one day, then shipped it off to SACS for further customizing.

I sent mine in to have white dots added to the adjustable sights, trigger job and to have them soften some edges. I've also got a MSH rebuild kit on the way to get rid of the ILS when it comes back. I have a 23lbs and 19 lbs spring that I plan on trying out.

maybe since someone has gone to the trouble of building a fixed type rear sight that will fit the extra machining on the RO's slide Springfield should offer a Duty Officer model with tritium Novak sights!

Great gun.
I'm a freak, I guess, as I am a fan of the factory sights.

They do...I sent my new RO to the SACS to have fixed night sights installed on the rear and a night sight on the front. Unfortunately, when I got my slide back, I could not get the slide to go back on the frame, so the entire gun is back at Springfield now for diagnosis and repair. They are also installing an Ed Brown MSH for me while it is there.

I know that the fixed sights are available for the RO, I've looked at them-I'm actually weighing options now of getting a Mil-Spec and upgrading it or downgrading an RO to fixed sights.
Probably easier to do the sight swap on the RO as not much else would have to happen to make it a good carry gun. I'd go with another Loaded with the fixed sights but those dang front serrations...

I'm with you Capt. I'm in the middle of selling my Loaded because I hate FCS more than anything else. So I'm trying to decide with a mil spec/GI or a RO and upgrading to my specs. Am I correct in assuming the frame to slide fit on the RO will be better and more tight than the latter two?

If you're inclined to believe advertising hype, the text of the ad in the link says that the RO is built to the quality standards of the TRP/TM, or words to that efftct. I'd buy into that to some degree as my RO was/is one tight pistol wrt slide fit and bushing/slide, but the trigger fitters didn't get the memo, as the trigger pull is definitely sub-TRP. Heavy and gritty. |

<-----front cocking serration hater. Thats why I bought a MIL SPEC and customized it. Thats why I bought a RO.
What do the fixed sights that SACS installs on the RO look like? Similar to the harrison? |
