What's Your Favorite Hi-Power Shooter?

Went old school and broke out the pre-war Belgian Army contract Hi-Power. I swear it's the best handgun I've ever fired and I grew up an Army brat. Guns have never been in short supply around me. So, now I'm thinking it's time I get a modern Hi-Power or variant for heavy range use. What should I get?

I'd also like to add that no ones hand was bitten and no one complained about the trigger--magazine disconnect intact. Only complaint was you just can find them--the pre-war model.

All I have are MKIIIs right now but I know for a fact that I NEED a T-Series (that was my first HP many moons ago-1976) and a Practical model (that was my favorite of the dozen or so HPs that have passed through my hands). The MKIIIs are great. Mine will group at 2" or better off a rest at 50' with WWB. They serve all my real needs but they deserve some company. An Inglis w/ stock is something else I'm certain I need. But the first thing I need is to get my son through his last two years of college and my daughter through her last year of law school. Delayed gratification. Bah! Humbug!

Best Regards,
ADP3

This "T" series I rescued from a small town pawn shop.
The front sight was missing and a piece of brass shim stock soldered in it's place, it was covered in surface rust and missing grips.
I spent a bit of time resurrecting it,

Who did the work? Did they remove any pitting?

My favorite of 7 is my Argy licensed milsurp model. I took out the disconnect and added a MkIII safety.

My favorite is an early 50's police trade in that's seen some use. All new springs, refinished grips, and some nice middle of the road loads and it's a sweet shooter. It goes to the range with me on every trip now.

How much should someone expect to spend on a neglected Hi-Power to bring it up to an everyday carry/range firearm? I see lots of HP's for $400-$500. What expense on top of the purchase can one expect?

Been playing with the two below lately. Top is an Israeli surplus T-series from '67 that my gunsmith Arnie Dew reparked and tweeked. Bottom is a Don Williams MKIII Practical that got some custom touches. Both are awesome performers.

Most of the neglect I've seen is cosmetic. If the basic functioning is good, no cracks, barrel is good, etc., the cost in parts (springs, extractor, etc.) can be really cheap. If you are handy with them and are comfortable with minor fitting/tweaking, $20-50 depending on vintage and what it needs. But... Do watch out for signs of a money pit (hairline cracks, spaces where there shouldn't be any, missing pins, loctite, overt abuse).

If you want it pretty, that's another question...

Ever owned an FEG Hi-Power clone? The price is right, but I've never held or shot one.

Apologies, I just saw this.
Re. "who did the work", I did the prep/fit the hammer/sear and thumb safety, buddy with a Bridgeport cut the slide for sights and Virgil Tripp did the H.C.

Well I have several old WWII Hi Powers but just like todays range adventure usually I take the Practical along.

Congratulations on the Pre-War, would like to add one to my group some day.

Todays range box. I still enjoy a good 1911.
