Night Sight Longevity
I purchased a previously owned Raptor II three years ago, Serial Number
K162XXX. The sights are getting dim, and I have difficulty picking up the front sight in strong sunlight. Can someone provide an e-mail address for a rep at Kimber? My hearing aids do not work well with telephones. I would like to inquire as to the process of having them refreshed/replaced. Also, will Kimber be able to tell me the date of manufacture if I provide the serial number? I'm curious as to when it was made. It has an external extractor, and I've never had a failure to extract or eject. Thank you for your time. Don Adams Roscommon, MI. |

Here you are, my friend:
[email protected] And yes; they will be able to give you date of manufacture by your serial number. Take care, Rick Last edited by Rick McC.; 05-24-2012 at 09:09 PM. |

A Kimber rep quoted me $35.00 to install plus the cost of the actual sights of your choice... Luckily mine came with them to my surprise...

If you only want to send an email, you may not get an answer very quickly. They get quite a few. Kimber night sights are warrantied for 10 years (and they don't look at the calendar that hard.) Your Raptor is a 2004 - 2005 model so the sights are still under warranty and Kimber will replace them for free if they are dim (in the dark.)

My sights are brad new and they don't glow in the daylight. To my understanding they are only seen at night. Ron

I personally don't like the Mepros, but I was spoiled on the TruGlo TFO's on a previous non- 1911 automatic. My Stainless Custom II TLE has the Kimber installed low profile Mepro's and I inquired with TruGlo about what they offered for Kimbers, the reply I got was they only have one TFO sight for the Kimbers which is the standard height and not the low profiles. So I have to ponder if I like them enough to swap out the low profile tactical sights (Mepros) for the taller ones. Decisions, decisions, lol.

Thank you for your responses. What caused me to post my question was I shoot in an informal "action pistol" league at my local club. The shooting takes place in a large sand pit, and I have difficulty rapidly finding the front sight in extremely bright sunlight. I guess I'm trying to exceed my abilities, and will have to slow down. I'm almost 68.
As an aside, I looked at the sights when I had the pistol in a dark room, and they still glow, so I guess they do not need to be replaced. Thanks again. |

FO does nothing at night. While you might get an edge in bright light, that benefit totally evaporates in the dark. Might be fine for controlled environments, but for a CCW and self-protection weapon in varied conditions, it's hard to beat decent night sights.

very true, but the OP said he was having trouble finding the front sight in bright sunlight, nothing beats FO IMO for that...
