I have recently picked up a browning gold second hand and had about the same experience. after thorough cleaning I would get only a few rounds though before it would jam - it would not throw out the spent shell. It did seem to be related to the type of shell but even with higher loads it would still jam despite keeping it very clean. I cleaned the stock spring after finding it all gunked up and thought I had finally found the solution but it still jammed. I never thought about how I hold the gun but that it worth paying attention to it. I have an 1100 that has never jammed after many years of sporting clays and duck hunting. I recently found that Browning sells a different gas piston for lighter loads 1-1/8 oz and less. I have bought one and am waiting for it to arrive.
