esmerelda grips and ambi safety?

If I get a set of esmerelda grips do I need to get the ambi cut for the right side? Reason I ask is on the CDPII ultra it don't look like the right side touches the ambi safety and needs the cut out option on a Kimber ultra? And are ultra thin grips better then regular size? Thanks!

Kimber uses their own proprietary ambi system that does not require the cutout on the back side of the grip panel that most (if not all) others do.
As for ultra thin, slims or full thickness, that's HIGHLY subjective. If you find yourself "reaching" for the trigger, or your fingers not wrapping around the front comfortably when shooting with standard or full thickness grips, then thinner panels may serve you well! If you can, find a friend that has slims on their pistol, and put a few through it to see how they work for you.
Esmerelda puts out fine grips, I'm sure you will enjoy and be happy with them!
Enjoy,
Sarge

I imagine your ambi safety is a stock Kimber? They don't use the grip to retain the weak side safety, so you likely don't need them clearanced. I can't speak to the other question. Grip thickness is an individual preference thing. I prefer standard thickness grips myself.

Also, I'm moving this to parts and accessories. Grips are accessories.

A word of caution - my Eclipse Ultra does have a more traditional ambi safety with the lever. Not sure what/why if other Kimbers don't, but since yours is an "ultra" too, you might wanna' double check...

I assume yours is an older model, possibly a pre-series II before the changed?

My advice would be to go ahead and have her notch it out for you. She doesn't charge to have the ambi safety relief cut, and it's so shallow you aren't likely to even notice it's there IF you don't need it.

However, if you discover you DO need it, you'll be paying another $4.00 shipping ($2.00 each way), and of course you'll be waiting another week or so to put them in their new home. I found this out the hard way when I requested she make a pair, but forgot to mention that I would be needing the ambi relief cut for my Loaded.

I guess I coulda just broke out the old-timer and carved the cut myself like I did on the set of no-name cocobolo grips I've got lying around. But I didn't want to mar up her artwork with my hillbilly gerry rigging.
