Thank you to all who participated in this thread and chimed in with thoughts. Much appreciated.

Here's the short answer regarding the final decision.

So I brought out some different rounds (middle of the table) and revolvers and pistols to go with them. He took this picture and emailed it to me. It's about a third of one safe.

Also one of my rarest .45 acp's that he thought was a toy.

Apologies to ybbiz34 for my hijack pictures. I think my sickness runs deeper then 1911's.

Thank you very much! I appreciate it. Thanks again to all who provided input. I was worried I'd miss my Sig (because I loved it) as soon as I walked out the door but I am happy to report that I do not.

As I said previously, I almost never take my Sig 228 out (it has been a couple years at least...), and this post has made me reconsider how attached I really am to it.

Hmmmmm.... I have a safe full of guns that I don't shoot. Maybe I should think about selling a few and buying another 1911 or two...

That was my sentiment as well, retrieverman. I find myself training exclusively with 9mm now. I had two pistols in .40 S&W, a Glock 23 and the Sig P229R. I will never sell the G23 because it has some sentimental value as well, but even though the Sig ran flawlessly, I haven't shot it in a little over a year.

While I primarily shoot 9mm, I fell in love with .45 again when I picked up an HK45C (which now plays the role of a home defense gun). The HK45C led to the TRP and now the Kobra. .40, for me, has slowly been phased out. For pure range pistol fun, nothing beats the .45, IMHO.

ybbiz34,

That is one great SHORT ANSWER. Many rounds of fun to come from that sweet looking pistol.

Great choice! I'm a big fan of the snake treatment, it's one of the most comfortable in hand purchases. I had an old friend over the other day who has never held a pistol with this treatment. I gave him my KC to hold and you could see his eyes light up..He really liked the way it felt and you could see the gears working in his mind. We are scheduling a range visit and he wants to shoot it, that's going to seal the deal I bet! Enjoy that Kobra ybbiz34, you certainly picked a winner..

Great choice and good luck with the gun.

Early Sigs are just awesome. I am not fond of the latest offerings or the latest finishes, but that is a different story. I am glad to see you didn't hesitate to get the EB Kobra for the Sig. The 229r can easily be had again should you feel the need.

I sold off a quite a few Sigs to get my EB Kobra Carry and I didn't look back. Now, I have a West German P228 that will never leave me even though it's been over a year since it got shot. I love the gun and tend to wanna keep it nice. I am starting to think that I much prefer the 45acp round over the 40 s&w caliber.

Thank you! I agree completely - the snakeskin treatment feels excellent in the hand. It's not too aggressive but still provides excellent purchase. I also enjoyed the feel of the chainlink treatment on the Special Forces model as well.

Thanks man. You are definitely wise in keeping that West German P228. A friend of mine has one and I always preferred the feel and look of it over my railed P229. I always keep my eye out for one at gun shows, etc. but never have been fortunate enough to come across one.

The Heavy Iron

Here's the thing. And its only my own feeling. I fell in love with the 1911 less than two years ago. So much that I own four. And will go with a 5th once the one I'm looking at is available. I dont like the polymers. To me I like the feeling of the weight and finish. Most of the newer semi autos have another thing that feels funny to me are the long trigger pulls. The old school 1911's have that nice crisp trigger which restricts me from pulling my sight picture. A lot of people like the new poly's. Thats OK. I'm getting older now. That real steady hand is now a thing of the past.

Thats why this is a 1911 web site. For old schoolers like my self. Funny thing I traded my new Sig P226 for a S&W 629 (44 mag). Another crisp positive heavy iron. Best decision and deal I have made to date. Dont mean to steal show for the Ed Brown Market. It should be my next 1911. No Joke

I hear ya. I still like my striker-fired polymer wonder-pistols though. I'll tell you one thing, if you ever want to give another polymer pistol a chance, check out the Walther PPQ.

My 9mm PPQ has the best out-of-the-box trigger I have EVER experienced on a polymer, striker-fired pistol. It's surely no 1911 trigger, but it is the next best thing, IMHO. Crisp, light, and ridiculously short reset. A pleasure to work.

I have two full-size 1911s currently. Who knows, maybe my next 1911 will be a carry 1911.

YES TRADE a SIG and get the BROWN

I have several SIGS, they are my favorite non-1911 pistol but non are as nice, balanced as well or finished as the one Ed Brown I own. As some others have already pointed out there really is no comparison. Plus you can always get another SIG, live it up and experience a truly fine pistol!
