First Complete Build: SS Govt.

I finished this build about a month ago and couldn't be happier. The Caspian Frame/Slide went together without a hitch. Barrel is an Ed Brown Drop-in and the rest of the parts are a mix of EB, WC, C&S. I did the checkering myself. No problems feeding any kind of ammo so far (about 300 rounds) and it is pretty accurate as far as I can tell shooting it off hand at 10 yards. I think the only parts I didn't have to touch with a file or stone were the FP and extractor

Very impressive checkering. I have the utmost respect for teaching yourself this skill. I tried it once, sold the checkering jig after my first try. Alot of work and I didn't have the touch to get really good at it. Mine came out very basic. Yours looks professional. Now I order it from the factory. Not as nice as yours though.

Thank you all for the replies. There are some places on the checkering that need to be touched up. It's no where near perfect, but thank you. It was a bear and took some time to get finished and blended. I am very happy with it, I might even replace the $10.00 grips with something nicer

What beveling are you referring to? It was a standard Govt slide and frame. The only work I had Caspian do were the frt/rear sight cuts and the Caspian radius on the rear tang. I de-horned the front of the slide and the rear a bit.

No jig really. For the back of the slide, I clamped it to my vise surface and used the milled base as the guide. On the MSH and front strap I clamped it in my vise with wood jaws and used the edges for the starter rows. Pretty redneck, but I did measure the first row with calipers to make sure they were even. I went pretty slow and checked my work quite often, sometimes even using a loupe. One edge of the rear slide tapers off a touch on the right side.
