New Kimber Ultra CDPII
I just picked up my new pistol. I fired 75 rounds of WWB. I had 3 FTF's total, where the slide was completely locked back and the cartridge still fully seated in the mag. Suprisingly, all 3 malfunctions occurred using a new wilson 47OX mag. I had no malfunctions using the included kimber mag. Rounds were split evenly between mags. I loved the way it shot. Very accurate and easy to control. Now, I need a carry ammo. Any suggestions for a non plus P?

I recommend Federal Hydra-Shock Jacketed Hollow Points or Speer Gold Dots.
That's pretty much what I carry. I've tried some other stuff. Didn't like how hot it could get and some of the other stuff had bad accuracy. Those two work great for me though.

Premature slide lock is cuased by your rounds hitting the slide stop . While you have your pistol apart look at the bottom of the stop. You'll likely see some copper marks. You can also verify this problem by putting a loaded mag in the mag well befor your reassemble the pistol.Insert the slide stop and you shopuld be able to see if the rounds are contacting it.
Sloution is 1..Remove a SMALLL amount of material where contact is being made. 2.Contact Kimber and they'll send you a new stop. Then you can file on the original and you'll have a spare. 3.Buy a Wilson Bullit proof stop, it has a detent in it that will solve your problem Edited to add it can be caused by the shooter bumping the slide stop during firing.

kimber UCDP
Lose the Wilsons - the Kimber mags work just fine - go with them - Kimber's ProMags work even better.
Don't go hacking on a new pistol - give it time - if problems continue then let Kimber work on it first. I use WWB at the range in my Kimber UCDP (no problems - ever) and carry Rem Gold Sabre the rest of the time (aprox 1,000 rounds down range of the Rem also with no problems - ever) Last edited by Couzin; 09-25-2007 at 12:06 PM. |

Call up kimber and they will ship you a new slide stop no questions asked. Then you will have a spare. I was having the same slide lock problems as you and a new slide lock from the factory was the answer.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II as well, great pistol. The only mags I use in any of my 1911s is the Kim Pro Magazines. I bought 5 of them for my Kimber Ultra for 15.95 each (when you buy 5 or more) from the Armory. (they ship quick too). Is a fair price on the magazines considering a week before I paid 27.99 for the same magazine local.
I have about 300 round down my Ultra with no problems. The only pain is taking apart the pistol, make sure your don't lose the take down tool, . The pistol itself carries like a dream and shoots even better. Still looking for a quality OWB holster.

Congrats on your new pistol! I am also the proud owner of an Ultra CDP II and love it. I've never had any problems of any sort (with about 400 rounds so far).
I mostly shoot Blazer Brass & WWB for most practice sessions. For carry I'm up in the air between Speer Gold Dots and Remington Golden sabers. Both have fed fine so far (about 20-25 rounds of each). I want to test them both a little more. I also stick with 230gr bullets. |

Wow, I just joined your club. No rounds down range yet though.
You might try the Federal Hydra Shock in the CDP. I use that in my 5" 1911 and they do quite well. That is my plan to try first. I will also try Speer and a few others. One I just saw is a HP 230 grain with a very sharp edge on the cup. Not sure what it is, maybe some of you might know. |

Still playing with mine to see what it likes the most, right now Winchester Hollow Point White Box 230 gr till I know for sure what will be 100%. Anything in 230 gr is always a comfort.

I have had a Ultra CDP ll for a couple of years now, I have added the SFS and Tru Glow trinitron sights. I have shot thousands of rounds on the original springs.
For falling plates I shoot 200 gr lead and carry Speer Lawman 200gr JSP. I have also found that mine has no problems with CCI .45 shot shells and after trying them and seeing how well they work, The Ultra is also my field carry. |

I have an Ultra CDP (not a 11). carried it for a while. Did shoot it a lot. Shot everything, never choked even on lead hand loads.
DON'T LOSE the take down tool I am on my third one.

I just use a paper clip and don't worry about the tool. Also, mine has been flawless with all types of ammo and all but one magazine. Quote:

My Ultra carry is the most satisfying pistol I own, and I have a few customs in my safe.
I use 230 grain Fiocchi in most of my 1911 pistols and am very impressed with the consistency this brand demonstrates. Doc

MSGT good question, I'm not sure, I think it is in the manual or you can call the factory (as I will sometime, lol), I have heard its good to replace the springs often in the 3" 1911s as they take a beating.

this was linked in another thread
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSo1Y9QVJ8E and is how I have been taking mine apart --didn't know it was "okaY" to do it this way though until I saw this video. It's a little easier for me this way because I have porkchop hands and even holding the takedown tool is hard for me--let alone getting it into that little hole.

Yep great weapon...I carry Kimber mags and use wilsons at the range...never a problem...I don't even use the takedown tool...I can break it down faster without the tool than I can even get the tool in the hole...
