If you are unfamiliar with your carry gun, seek additional training on your own. There should be no additional requirements of any type from local, state or federal governments.

It is contrary to my constitutional rights to require more than minimal training.

If someone wants to take on the responsibility of carrying a firearm without putting in the time to learn how to use it, thats their problem.

I am an Instructor so I benefit from state mandated training.

But I also believe that training is important and have helped hundreds of people become better shooters. I do my best to cram in all the information that I can into 8-9 hrs of the class and I offer extra sessions to students that have a difficult time.

Part of the problem I see is some new shooters want to "take a class" and think they're prepared. And when they find out that they are not as well prepared they want to take another "class". They don't want to put in the time to gain Experience.

I've been a handgunner since I was a kid and a serious handgunner for 25 years. Noobs think they can take a class and know what I know.Yea right.

Time+Effort= Experience
An 8 hour class is nothing.

There should be NO mandated training even background checks are useless, because criminals carry without regard to law.All the requirements are to make the politicians feel that they have given you something when you already have that right under the constitution.Kentucky dictates what will be taught and what it takes to fail.Never seen anyone fail.
If I understand correctly some believe that "our right"should be regulated if so who deems themselves to be enlightened enough to decide what is best for the citizen.Even those who posted in this thread that there should be some requirements cannot agree what those requirements should be.There should be only one requirement for a law abiding citizen to carry concealed.HAVE A GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COLD.

My compliments on your view of the basic curriculum.
Thanks for that. I like to make things easy for people. If it is an ordeal for people, they are less likely to want to continue. This is just a part time gig for me so any money I make is just a bonus. It pays for my habit (shooting) so any free range time works out well for me and the students. There are very few bad students but there are a ton of bad teachers.

I also feel that the NRA Basic Pistol Course is enough for people to handle a gun properly and safely if it is taught right.

Take care.
