Frustrating search
Just a rant. I want to get a 9mm 1911 and have pretty much narrowed it down to a DW PM 9 or an STI Trojan. While I know it's hard to find a 9mm in a shop, I thought I'd be able to find 45s to compare. I live in a large metro area with a lot of gun shops and none of them carry either DW or STI with the exception of one over priced shop that had a Spartan, and I wasn't impressed by it. I don't like making purchases of this amount w/o at least seeing a sample of the item. Do others here find these guns readily in stock at their local dealers? I can find them on GB but hate to buy sight unseen.

Two or three gun shops here have them fairly regularly, but they sell out fast and manufacturers are so backlogged that they can't replace them quickly.

I was at one of the gun shops I frequent yesterday, and I was surprised to find a counter full of STI's. This is the first time I have seen them in my area.

Bips, what part of the country do you inhabit? Might get some help if we knew.

bips, I share your pain. I don't get into gunshops as frequently as I did a decade ago, but I have never seen an STI in a gun shop in Arizona. I have handled them at a couple of large gun shows in Phoenix. I have seen precisely one Dan Wesson pistol for sale in a gunshop. I pretty much have to buy online to get the guns I'm interested in... ymmv

check out the fusionfirearms.com site. they make custom guns at an sti price. Heard just a five week wait.

Baltimore, Md. Thanks. I've tried a couple of times to ad my location but it hasn't worked.
Finally got it to work with some help. Not the best on a computer.
Anyway, hit 2 more shops today and they won't even order either brand.
