Need info on Factory Custom 1911

I have a 1911 from the custom shop before it went away. Being the 2nd owner there are some things I need to change and dont know the best way to do it.

The front strap and trigger guard were never checkered. Grip tape or is there a better way? I dont want to refinish the entire gun.

Also where can I get thin grips for the gun that have the STI logo on the, as I dont see them on STI's page?

Any special cleaning or lubrication tips than a regular 1911 ??

I can provide some info on the grips.
I just bought a new Ranger II and it came thin Sti grips. They're pretty good quality for stock grips but I much prefer regular thickness for hands. I called Sti and they don't sell to public. You have to go through one of their distributors. I called Shooters Connection (where I bought the Ranger from) and they had one set of Sti regular thickness grips in stock; unfortunately a bit too expensive. For a few bucks more i decided to buy better aftermarket ones. So there you have it, you can go through one of their distributors to get a set. I would recommend Thunder Mt Custom or Shooters Connection; both offer excellent service.

If you checker the frame, it's going to have to be refinished. Your only other option is to get some grip tape and use that. I use it on my Spartan, it's surprisingly good.

Try watching the For Sale adds...I have seen STI slim grips from time to time

Has anyone tried the Wilson Combat front strap checkering thingie? It bends to fit over the front strap and sits under the grips..

Pretty cheesy locking and does not give near the grip you can get with grip tape.
