I just got a vertical shoulder rig from Black Hills Leather. It is a thing of beauty. No pics, but check out their website. I sent him pics of my gun and my height and weight, and the damn thing came out of the box perfect!!

The best long slide holster I have found so far
This is it for me. It is a holster "system." All components sold separately. Choose you weapon, choose your belt, choose your holster, choose your mag pouch. The belt comes in different sizes to match our different sizes. Then they can be adjusted smaller for summer, larger for fall hunting season to fit over a coat. The holsters are suede lined and don’t smash your gun and wear your finish off, and come in varying lengths. This one fits the 1911/2011 longslide (with or without rails) perfectly. I have another holster for the odd slab-sided performance center S&W .44 mag revolvers too, which can be swapped out in seconds via the single direction snaps so there is no risk of accidentally detaching.
The holsters can also be used as a belt holster only if you so choose. The mag pouches come in 1911, double stack, and ‘mucho grande’ for things like the Desert Eagle. Mag holders also swap out for loops for revolver ammo if that is the choice of the day. The holsters come with a quick break thumb release snap over the top. It is SUPER comfortable! It distributes the weight very well—no more pulling your pants down because of an all steel fully loaded longslide. And, it rides perfectly in a vehicle. I became a huge fan of the shoulder-cross draws back in the good old days when the LAR .45 Mag Grizzlies came out, which made packing a hand cannon much easier. The bad news—I met the guy who makes these at a gun show a few years ago, but I cannot find his business card right now. He had a really obscure website, which I cannot seem to find either. The good news—there is a gun show this weekend!! I will keep you posted if I get lucky. Last edited by Traveler01; 06-12-2012 at 04:35 PM. Reason: typeo |

Thanks, Nick and Traveler for the pics! I'm going shoulder as I have packed my Kimber in the woods with a tactical Black Hawk in the cross draw position on my belt.
With the new LS I'll be getting I want the holster as you have shown higher up from my waist and more undr my chest on my left side while rifle hunting say in a tree stand. Again, thanks as your input and pics profide further options to consider. Glenn |

I'm ready and waiting with my Credit Card when / if he finds the maker of his holster (Traveler01).
BTW, Traveler01.... are there any markings on it that might clue us in?

Bladetech makes their DOH for the 6" 2011s. Its more oriented to the competitive shooting world but it makes for a great holster.

Bianchi #50P Chapman Plus 45 Long Slide
If you like belt holsters. These have a "quick draw" slot in the front and a nice cant angle. Unfortunately, these are no longer produced, but you can occasionally find them. This one still needs broken in. Lemme know if you think you need it more than me

I've ordered this holster for my Ruger Single Six 22mag 6 1/2" barrel revolver El PassoSaddlery. I'm considering this Doc Holiday for my Fusion LS when it comes in. Notice the adjustment notches in the shoulder strap.

I found the holster I have been seeking. It's made by Andrews Leather In Alachua, FL.
It's the Monarch shoulder rig. I like it because it has no tie downs and is balanced. Will be placing order soon and will post when I receive the finished product. My gun dealer has one of his holstersand rates very highly. Glenn http://www.andrewsleather.com/traditional. |
