Well, I am new around here and it's got my attention. I recently purchased my first 1911 - a new to me PII in excellent condition - wanting some work done on it so I can shoot it in SS, I sent it back up to Les Baer....which I am sure is fine, but based on this thread I certainly would have looked at ACW. It won't be my last Baer or the last 1911 I send out for work and you can bet ACW will get a call next time.

ACW has two of my Colt 38 Supers and from the pics / updates they have been sending and posting they do great work.

I just got back from ACW a Caspian Custom Compact 10mm that I had a local Gun Shop mess up for me..when I contacted Rob he said no problem send it to me..he kept me informed of what they were doing and going to do...They took someone else's GOOF UP and straightened it up...ACW WILL BE MY ONLY GUNSMITH'S FROM NOW ON...when it was finished and he called me and told me the cost, I was once more blown away...VERY CHEAP for what he had done...made it shoot again(came back from LGS as a one shot wonder)...trigger work (crisp 3-1/2 to 4)....replaced mag release with Ext Ed Brown..stripped old finish put on by LGS...applied the finish that is on it now....I can't find one thing wrong with it now...he also took out some machine marks that was in the slide from day one and I never even brought that to his attention...THANKS ACW...

Im pretty impressed. Now if they only did treatments like melonite or tennifer type of finishes. My gun would already be there.

Hard Hat is the name Severns uses. Just like the other finishes, all the same just different companies selling it use different names.

If I call it Hard Hat, you can rest assured that the guy using that terminology is going to be doing the finish work on it. Dave is extremely meticulous, and I trust him 100%.

Got a Baer of my own that I bought used; so I have been following this thread for awhile. It has been interesting and I have learned a lot. So thanks to all for posting the pictures etc. Looking forward to the end results. Mine was in great shape when I got it. The previous owner took real good care of it.

We hope to have lots more "action" shots by the end of the week. We had to order a new barrel link. The original link was a #4 and after a bit of inspection, we determined that it was "riding the link" very slightly. We are waiting for the #2 link from EGW and then we can final fit the barrel and then blend all the parts. After that, I will start degreasing and re-finishing everything. Hopefully by Friday 6/1 we will be able to start the coating process. I like to coat parts when no one else is here in the shop. Cerakote fumes are murder on innocent bystanders.

These are good guys, folks, and I'm glad to have them so close-by for my 1911..have no fear if you're looking for some custom work, the boys at Alchemy are top notch!
