50 rounds out of a Jennings .22 at seven yards, offhand firing double taps. I'm not sure what was more impressive, the fact I managed this while grappling with a 30-pound trigger pull or the fact that the thing sailed all the way through a box of ammo without a single jam!

Try not to fall into the common trap of wanting to replace everything on your new 1911 just to make it "better". Know what you're changing out, and why. You may spend a lot of money fixing things that weren't broken to begin with. Shoot it for at least 500 rounds, then decide what you don't like and want improved. Vintage 1911's should NEVER be refinished or modified because it ruins any value they had as a collectible firearm. |

New shooter RIA 1911 9mm 25ft
Both targets were at 25ft. Both were at an indoor range but the yellow target was about two weeks after I first really started shooting and the zombie was about 2 months in.

Decided to try a "longer" shot this past weekend. At 50 ft, standing, off hand ... I managed to land all 8 rounds within a 6 inch circle.
Good, bad, other? I've only been shooting since late Feb so I am still figuring things out. |

As a new shooter all you can do is get better as long as you are getting proper instruction and developing good habits. One drill I teach new shooters is start shooting from near contact distances and keep moving the target back further and further every 5 rounds or so. Once you've found where you are not able to keep a nice tight group you've found the distance you need to really start working on. Keep it up! |

Remarkably my recently purchased RIA CS shoots identically. I haven't shot it past 10 yards yet, but inside 10 it easily shoots Silver dollar groups.

I was at the range last night sighting in. There was a gentleman there with his 14 yr old daughter (one of the regulars). She usually shoots her Ruger 6" 22 or her Colt 380 Mustang (quite well too) and he shoots with a Kimber compact 45, always at 50'. When she first started she did shoot some at 20' with the Mustang to get her sight settings. A fresh face (male, late 20's or so) showed up with a polymer 40 compact and a 200 round bulk pack of ammo. He sets up at 20 feet with a portable stand and a standard 50' bullseye target (roughly 9x12"). Out of 200 rounds I would estimate he hit the target 50 times (at 20' remember), the rest were all low & left. He left more lumber (from the target supports) on the floor than a lumberjack would leave from felling a tree. After he left I wandered over to the regular & his daughter and joked with them about having her go over to him next time and show him how to shoot. She just smiled and got all red, really a cute young lady who might break 5' in heels. Makes me happy to see guys bringing their young ones in and teaching them how to shoot and setting them down the path of marksmanship. FWIW |

1st time at the range!
Took my new Kimber Pro Crimson Carry II to the range today for the 1st time. 30 years ago I as an MP on the pistol competition team. Haven't fired a weapon in over a decade.
I started shooting at 7PM after a full day at the office (yeah, I don't exactly live a hard life at 53 years old...) and shot for two hours. I was truly tired in a good way by the time I was ready to call it a night... Indoor range, fair to somewhat dim lighting... I used Federal American Eagle 230gr ball ammo and did NOT use the crimson laser. That sucker's for real world shooting, not practice and skill building! ![]() ![]() The next two photos are of my first shots of the night. Nervous, not sure how my Kimber would do, and not yet in habitual breathing/stance/trigger squeeze discipline... (that's all coming slowly) ![]() And of course, the head shots from that same initial try. ![]() By the time I two hours was approaching, and I'd drank most of my water (thank God I remembered to bring water!), I was determined to get into the zone of breathing and squeezing that trigger, at 10 yards... ![]() Overall it was a mixed bag, but considering I hadn't even HELD a weapon in so long, let alone fired one regularly, I'm pretty happy about the outcome! |

![]() Both groups were shot off hand. Top target is 15 rounds though a Glock 19, bottom is 10 rounds through a Kimber Conversion on a Sig Sauer 1911. |

Good shooting. Where do the other holes around the edge of your target come from?

I don't know if this is any good, 2 flyers out of 20. Just happy to be hitting paper on what appears to be a big black blob at that distance.
Sig 1911 Nitron Rail .45 Distance: 25 yards Ammo: PMC 230gr Stance: Isosceles offhand (unsupported)

This was with my brand new Caspian build, first time putting rounds through her. 10 yards, 82 rounds. Not doing a whole lot to check accuracy, some strings were pretty fast. Reduced sillouette.

Practicing for the upcoming Bullseye regionals. I had a real good day. Hopefully things keep looking up. Keep practicing everyone!
First five shots of the day were at 25 yards, one handed, SlowFire with my S&W Model 66. Magtech factory 38spl 158gn semiwadcutter rounds. Best target I've shot with that pistol. Distinguished Revolver match practice: ![]() Last 20 shots of the day were 45acp 160gn rounds, rapid fire, 25 yds onehanded, every five shots in 10 seconds.

Most recent range trip
Here is target for most recent range trip. Almost all shots were at 21 feet with EB KC, using 5 shot groups. I am getting better but no where near most of you.
Interestingly, the center right and left groups were with a Kimber Gold Match II the guy in the lane next to me let me use, we struck up conversation and switched guns. I never shot a Kimber before and really liked it, trigger was a bit tight for me and rear sights a little wide for me but I thought I did pretty good with it first time out. ![]() Bluesdog |
