Hallo from South Africa
Hello, I am not only new to this forum, I am also new to 1911 handguns. I was a huge Glock fan and fell in love with the 1911 when I got one as a gift from my father in law. I love shooting, hunting, fishing and skydiving. I live in a little town called Tzaneen in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. I found this forum whilst searching the web for 1911 info. I thought it should be a good place to find info and meet fellow 1911 enthusiasts.

Welcome to the forum. Quite a few here who are fans of SA. I was last in Lusekeseke (sp) in the mid 70's while flying a helicopter from Durban to PE and got shoved down by weather. Was also at the World Relative Championships at Wonderboom in about 75-76? I worked there for a couple of years based in Germiston.

No....free fall relative work. The canopy things came along later. You have to remember the hottest thing back then was a Paracommander!!!! I didn't get to jump a square until about 1985. I am boggled by what is done in sport parachuting these days. My 1st 50 were done with self modified C-9 canopies in the late 50's early 60's. Have you seen a pic of 13 floaters outside a Twin Beech on the wing and on top of cabin? I was the pilot for a series of jumps and that one was made into a poster for DZ's around the world.
I Also did a lot of shooting in SA and taught some early classes up at HalfWay House for the 1911's in early 70's. Got to do some great hunting while flying helicopter for ESCOM out in the Karoo .... Cheers Rocky |
